yes, i think soriano should be plunked, but in his defense, he wasn't pointing at the dugout, but at what i assume was is family he went up to after he rounded the bases. for sure the dude acted like he just hit the game winning hr in a playoff game.
Considering Chicago had a catcher who had never caught a major league inning and had only caught 13 games in the minor leagues in the past few seasons, wouldn't it have made sense to test him out a bit? Shouldn't Bourn have attempted to steal 2nd prior to having Matusi immediately bunt?
The bunting Bourn over rather than letting him steal the bag on his own against a guy who is a 3B, not a catcher. If you don't let Bourn steal bases in that situation you are wasting his greatest skill. I thought he was an idiot when he did the same thing earlier in the year with a catcher actually in the game. I'm convinced he is an idiot, or not paying attention.
I will concur with the council on this vote as well. I still blame our offense for sucking balls to that point, but even the announcers which are designed to be homers by trade wanted Coop to put some pressure on Fox.
Yes. Lance put himself in the lineup last week, when the choice was his. More importantly, what irks me about the situation is Wade's comment that the situation would be handled differently if it were in September. Ed, this is bigger than September. You had clawed your way to the top of the mountain, and you have a seven-game road trip against the Cubs and Cardinals (and then three games against the pitching-loaded Giants). This is it. If it is at all physically possible for Lance to play, or even pinch-hit, as he did last week, he needs to be an option. And that seems to be quite possible, given his performance last week, as well as Wade's statement that he could play if it were September. This is no different than the idiotic manager who always saves his best reliever for the ninth, while letting a mediocre scrub face Albert Pujols with the bases loaded in the eighth. Sometimes the season gets decided before the final week, but Wade is evidently too conservative/by the book to see that. And as a reward, the Astros offense has suddenly become inept (shock!) and they've completely offset the sweep of the Cards with three consecutive losses. Thanks again, Ed.
Nonsense. With strains, you could easily make the injury much much worse. If you have only 15 games left, it doesn't matter if the injury gets worse because the season is over anyway and you have the whole offseason to rest. If Lance were to make his injury worse now, then he's out a month or more instead of 15 days. You definitely treat this injury differently in July as opposed to September. Late July is simply not make-or-break when you're 2-4 games out. The goal should be to get Lance healthy as quickly as possible. And Lance's wanting to play and thinking he could play is irrelevant - athletes always want to play and rarely ever think about the long-term consequences.
yeah, i was half asleep when that happened, so i forgot. i agree with that. the cat, lance would have let the media know by now if he was against adamently against going on the dl. and i agree with major 100%. just like jimmy d said last night, there is way too much of the season left to play in july like it's september.
y the hell do we have blum starting at third. we need a new third baseman. thats the only bad spot i c on our team
Because he is hitting .271 with a .340OBP and has a couple of game winners. He may not be slugging well for a 3B, but he has been better than many expected. The bench and a 3rd & 4th starter are much bigger holes. Even if you look at our lineup, Pudge is the weakest link so far.
Blum is outhitting Wigginton in a similar number of ABs, and his D is fine. He's OK, not a star, but not a black hole in the lineup either.
Some quotes from Cooper in the Yahoo! Astros Team Report: I have no problem with keeping Sampson out there, but how can you justify pitching Arias 2 innings following a 2 inning outing if you are using that logic? But you won't be aggressive with Bourn at the end of games? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_y...9-mlb-hou&prov=sportsxchange&type=team_report
I'm thinking two of those three losses had much more to do with horrible pitching than terrible hitting. Hmmm...let's see what Puma has to say... http://footer.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/07/condolences_to_puma_1.html
