Or it could just be that conditions changed between the two games, and today was a better day to be a hitter at Wrigley, while on the day that Chacon and Wolf pitched, it wasn't. Chacon only giving up 2 runs in 6 innings is about as unlikely as Wolf giving up one in 6, so its not like it was one-sided poor run production. When poor hitting it affects both sides equally, I have a difficult time describing it as a matter of 'luck' and am more apt to look for early season environmental factors.
He hurt his thumb on that play where a Cubbie tried to advance on a fly ball hit to Bourn. Bourn threw him out at 3rd but he slid right into Wiggy's glove and Ty immediately took his hand out of the glove and shook his hand in pain. He tried to stay in the game but I guess it was still hurting so he left an inning or two later.
If Roy can not find the 5 to 7mph he has lost on his fastball it is going to be a long year for him. Any word on why he is throwing so slow? DD
Didn't he start last year throwing like 90-91? I don't remember if it stayed that way all year or not.
For anyone who thought our batting sucked on opening day, Peavey just pitched all 9 against the Dodgers for 2 hits and 1 run. Struck out 8 and only walked 1 which was in the 9th. It's not only us who have problems with him lol
Wig hurt. Berkman hurt. Oswalt iffy. HP hitting .185. Who would have thought?! Is Berkman turning into a McGrady? I know it's early, but they are setting a tone for the rest of the season here. So far they look like a below average team. This year I didn't set my expectations that high and I'm still frustrated. I'm tired of Houston teams losing and don't give me any bs about the Dynamo. They are about as important to me as the Comets! rant off/
I think starting last year Roy consciously starting pitching to contact more so he could pitch farther into games. I remember Garner talking about it. He's dialed down the fastball to take a little wear and tear off of him... allegedly. I don't think that's quite working out really.
Well he was still hitting mid 90s with his fastball when he became more of a contact pitcher. I'm a little worried. I hope these last few starts are an aberration rather than a decline that the "experts" said was going to happen.
Erstad, Blum and Tomas Perez all in the lineup today... against Zambrano. This has the potential to get ugly.
you gotta be kidding me. 1-0 count, 2 men in scoring position, and carlos swings at something up at his neck level.. ridiculous. garbage.
