i think runge's strike zone has been kinda inconsistent today. It's annoying the hell out of me. at the same time, i'm happy watching baseball again and being able to analyze something like that. weird.
Wonder if we can muster up a hit at some point here or will we go the last 2 innings hitless as usual once we're behind
a little early in the season to be saying things like "as usual".. plus the Marmol/Wood combo is looking solid early on. (esp. Marmol)
What the hell was Tejada doing swinging at that? Totally pathetic once again from this "superstar" hitting lineup
1-0 up in the series and up 5-2 in game two and somehow we find a way to lose the entire series. This team sucks hard
stobbart, how long have you been watching baseball? we're not even a week into the season. the tigers have the best lineup on paper, and they've yet to find a win. take heart that the pitching has shown you something. at the end of the season, barring tons of injuries, i promise you that you won't be upset with the offensive production of the 2008 astros. if the pitching so far is any indicator of what you're gonna see all season, then the astros will be competitive. i'd also point out that we've played 7 games so far, and in 3 of them we've faced an all-star caliber starting pitcher.
With Berkman out and Erstad in, I would like to see: Bourn Erstad Tejada Lee Pence ...as 1-5 in the order. You would break the L-R-L at the top, but the Bourn - Pence - Erstad seemed unnatural. I don't like that Cooper just shoved Erstad into Berkman's spot and kept the order rigid, and Erstad seems like more of a natural #2 hitter than any of the other current regular starters.
If I had come on this board before game 1 of the season and said that after 2 starts Oswalt would have an ERA of 6.00, I would have been flamed like crazy. To this point, the starting pitching has been pretty solid. Oswalt hopefully will round into form, and then we will be pretty good in the rotation if the other guys keep up their work.
This is a small sample size, but it is also a small sample size for the pitching. While the offense on the whole will be good can't say the same about the pitching.
Backe looked alright but I sure am worried about our offensive numbers. The batting averages are awful.
Absolutely true. I'm not suggesting the pitching will maintain this level. In fact, I highly doubt it. It is nice to see what they're capable of, though.
