One point that a lot of detractors to the Texans defense miss is the fact that over the last 13 games of the season, they ranked 10th in the league. The catastrophic first three games were clearly a rough adjustment period to the new system. If that defense has truly improved this season like we think it has, then perhaps this unit is moving close to elite ranks, although definitely not there yet (I think we're another shutdown corner and safety away from standing up to the likes of San Diego and Baltimore). We'll have to see the games play out though -- see how they perform against more potent offensive units as the season progresses. One thing that really impressed me yesterday was how they were able to shut down the Chiefs by playing just straight man defense and not blitzing at all. That says a lot.
Dude, I want to see a picture of Kalu LEAPING into the air on top of a cowering Huard there towards the end of the game. That was freaking POWERFUL **** right there, man. I imagine Huard laid in bed last night thinking, "Can't sleep, Kalu'll eat me. Can't sleep, Kalu'll eat me."
There is nothing to fall for, I was being serious. It was a very good game. But whatever man, here your biscuit.
OK I might re-iterate what some people already said but I have to put in some input I was pretty excited the whole game and almost in tears at one point to see us looking like a team out there and definately feeling the crowd. Our offense looked good and I know we only scored 13pts on that side of the ball but it wasnt like we were dominated on any possesion. Huge difference from last year... I actaully felt like we could convert on a 3rd down, whether it be short or long, whether it be by run or by pass. Now I am not sure if this is a product of having to watch Carr, but Schaub looks good. Not the strongest arm but definately more calm under pressure and has good decision making. I actaully liked the shot he took that got intercepted. AJ obviously had the advantage and if that ball is thrown a couple yrds deeper, its a touchdown. It is so great to see that are passing game is not resorting to 3yrds a play... AJ has to be the happiest guy on the team. Liked what I saw from Ahman. If he can stay healthy, he definately gives us our best chance to win. I loved the way he got through the holes and not only took some hits, but gave them. Liked the defense but of course I want to see more pressure. Im glad Mario had a great game but his 2 sacks were more of a product due to an outside rush. At the same time, he was able to put on an attack and give himself a chance. I believe his final stats were 5.5 tackles, 2 sacks, fumble recovery for a TD. Other than our Dline, I dont have a huge problem with anything else. I do worry about our depth. Awesome to see our D come out hitting and never really stopped. Our special teams was up and down. Turk was unbelievable. What took us so long to find a capable punter of kicking further than 40yrds. Turks punt average was 55yrds on 2 kicks (longest being 59). Our returns were mediocure because it didnt seem like there was any room to run - no blocking. I couldnt help but smile every time it showed Jacoby getting ready for a punt return... walking around, shaking his head like he was the sh*t. Fun times for Texans fans. Cant wait till Sunday.
Did anyone else catch Travis Johnson's comments about his interception on the postgame interview on the radio? He said that the pick was made possible by DeMeco Ryans reading the offense and moving him into position just before the snap. People can bash the Texans forever about the first pick in the 2006 draft, but it is becoming more and more clear that we got the best player anyway.
They showed the replay of that on 13 Sunday night. Actually, TJ was a late sub-in on that play and the reason he made that int is because he didn't have time to get into his 3-point stance. He wasn't even set when the ball was snapped, he was still trying to get in position.... which put him in perfect postion to pick off that pass. Maybe we should try him at safety! Ironic that our D-line had an INT and a fumble recovery for a TD. How often does that happen in the same game? It would be nice if that kind of thing became the norm instead of the exception.
Another thing that I saw yesterday was that as the game went on, the Texans' level of play just got better and better on both sides of the ball. To me, that's a tangible sign of progress. They keep this up and they could very well end up with 8 or 9 wins.
A glimmer of hope. When they win two games in a row against class opponents the corner will have been turned. May happen this season. Too early to say they are "competitive," but, if they win on the road against the Panthers, maybe.
One thing was shown on Sunday that this team has not shown since game 1 of this franchise's history. Confidence.
Just because he wants to see what happened doesn't mean he's blood thirsty. BrieflySpeaking There's a video of it in the thread in the Hangout. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=134438
I thought it was funny when after Mario Williams scored the TD, DeMeco tried to jump on his shoulders from behind. He missed, went over Mario's head and splatted on the ground.
Man, I am having me some funz talking trash and trolling on the Panther's fan forum. http://www.carolinahuddle.com/forum/carolina-panthers/
