They all doubted him.. ESPN didnt even MENTION HIM all DAy LONG!!! HATERS GOT SERVED!!! Mel Kiper can remove his mouth from Trent Edward's groin now. 3rd Qb overall, only a couple slots behind Quinn. I feel severely tempted to dig up some old threads where people were doubting Kolb would even make it into the first day... but im just going to celebrate instead. WAY TO GO KARL!!
15 spots behind Quinn, I think...and to a team that traded their first rounder next season to get him.
I remember reading somewhere (not related to Mel Kiper or ESPN) that many scouts view most of the problems at Stanford as a lack of talent among the other players on the team. From what I understand, if he didn't have constant injury problems, he would be viewed as a talented prospect who was not given the tools to succeed at Stanford - a good project pick with tools and lots of room to develop to be taken in the 2nd or 3rd round. Apparently the frequent injuries are considered a real question mark, and it drives his value down which probably pushes him to 3rd round or (more likely) second day.
I loved watching the reaction of Eagles fans when the pick came in... of course.. the idiots throw a hissy fit.. wahhh booo... hisss... well, last time they boo'd a QB it turned out ok.. Kolb reminds me of Jeff Garcia, only with better accuracy.. I don't know if he's going to stay with Philly, cause Donovan has many years left.. but he's a great insurance policy for now. I had Kevin going to baltimore.. but so much for that.
With the fall of Quinn and Kolb and Beck going before the Texans would have picked in the 2nd round, the Shaub move by the Texans looks better and better.
I know the Texans won't go Running Back in the 4th round, but I wish they'd grab Jackie Battle in the 4th. The kid's gonna be a beast. In the third round, we'll get a lineman, and in the 4th, we'll get a receiver. In the 5th, maybe Battle will be there.
Also, I love the Okoye pick (don't wanna reread the whole thread), but you can see from the clips that he has some technical issues that can hopefully be corrected. He's got all the natural ability in the world, but I don't expect him to have a Demeco Ryans-like impact. One big thing I noticed is that he plays WAY too high for a tackle.
Congrats to Houston product Tony Ugoh going to the Colts. I graduated high school with him, great guy.
There are still a lot of QBs that were available...Edwards, Beck, Stanton, and Smith all could have bee had. I'm not saying it was a bad move, but you have to wonder if we would have been better off with maybe picking Quinn at #8 and picking up Blalock in the 2nd.
One of the things on the scouting report was that he rose up to early out of his stance and lost power. But, he's only 19 and that should be correctable.
