When I keep hearing about how all Williams needs is to get a couple of years under his belt and then we'll see why he was worth taking with the top overall pick, that smacks of being a project player in my book. For where he was picked, it was vital for him to show some production and as you pointed out, he didn't. All i'm seeing is the Texans expend pick after pick on the defensive line and I'm forced to agree with an earlier poster in that maybe now, the Texans will finally be able to mount a pass rush. Of course that assumes that Okoye doesn't need a "couple of years" under his belt as well.
I almost begin to wonder if there is some sort of ‘master plan’ to woo fans in Texas. It sounds silly, but given that Bud Adams wears a dead beaver on his head, is there be anything that can really be described as too silly or bizarre?
I like the move, as well, but Okoye's age makes me wonder how long it will take him to be really good. Right now, I think he'll have an average season, and then slowly become a really great tackle. But then, maybe, he just really is that much more advanced than other players, and will make the transition just as quickly as a 22 year old.
Awesome. Welcome on board. I like Savage's quote. There's no point in waiting another year (which really means two years counting development time), not to mention there's no guarantee if we're in position to get the past qb possible next year, and who that might be. We're getting a head start w/ Quinn now. BTW, the last time a Cleveland team drafted a franchise player who actually WANTED to go to Cleveland? Yep, Lebron James. BTW, Weis coached Tom BRADY? Also BRADY Quinn? BRADY = BRADY? It's in the stars people. (And before anyone jumps on me, I'm joking...no one is more pessimistic than me about the Browns)
Okoye is going to be great. And there's no reason to think that he can't pick up the defensive schemes. He graduated college at 19! He's a GENIUS.
how is drafting offense any different? offensive players need time to develop too. it's not as if they've got more experience under their belt.
I heard him on 610 after he was drafted. He didn't sound very smart to me, and he actually sounded a little r****ded. I hope he works out.
I believe going to a college when you're 16 and graduating in 4 years is more of an indicator of how smart you are vs. how well you speak. But that's just me.
Well his bio looks pretty good: After only spending two weeks in middle school, he tested into the 9th grade. He first started playing football as a Sophomore, knowing virtually nothing about the game before his high school coach suggested he go play Madden NFL Football to learn.By the time he was a Senior, he won first-team All-State honors as both a defensive lineman and offensive lineman. Amobi went to the University of Louisville at the age of 15, majoring in biology. He later switched his major to psychology, in order to graduate a semester early. He also became the youngest player in the NCAA, at age 16. Okoye played in all 13 games as a freshman at defensive tackle and was credited with 17 tackles and a sack. Recorded then-career-best three tackles against Tulane and recorded his first career sack against UTEP.
Well, he could have fooled me. He sounded like a fellow Cooger High grad. Olajuwon is also from Nigeria and he speaks much better then Okoye does. http://www.sportsradio610.com/
