Actually, our GM didn't pick Mario Williams.

That he is but this is yet another project player taken by the Texans in the first round. The kid has "upside" and "potential". Funny, they said the same things last year about Mario Williams. I confess that I'm underwhelmed about this pick and will be keenly watching how this pick improves their lousy offense.

They have Tony Romo and Brad Johnson. I hope they don't pick him, unless they plan to trade him to someone else.

Mario Williams played fairly well, particularly when healthy. Would you really have a problem with Williams' play if he were picked No. 10? The problem with Mario is that, for obvious reasons, the expectations are sky high since he was picked No. 1 overall. But it's not like he played poorly, and he had a nagging injury too. If Okoye has a similar impact this year to what Mario had last year, I won't be disappointed.

Furthermore, what should the Texans have done? The defense was equally bad, if not worse, than the offense. The two primary offseason acquisitions (Matt Schaub, Ahman Green) addressed the offense, so it made a lot more sense to address the defense here.

I expect to see a lot of that for the forseeable future.

Okoye was rated as the top defensive tackle in the draft, it is a position of need and he produced in college. He is a "project" in the sense that he will improve because he is only 19.

It's sad when Steve Young makes me wish Mel Kiper would talk MORE. God, if I have to hear him one more time say, "What does this pick say to me if I'm (insert quarterback name here)?"

    Ugh.

Did the NFL give Brady Quinn a parachute for this free-fall?

Yeah, but we dont have Deuce. Reggie ended up in the perfect situation for his skill set. I dont begrude him the success he has had, but I KNOW he would not have done as well on our team, because our offense dosnt have anywhere near the talent as New Orleans at any position except WR.

Really, SY keeps talking about how good Quinn is. I am tired of this draft being about Brady Quinn and how he has fallen. They rarely talk about the players being drafted. Is Suzy dating Quinn? She interviewed him like 10 times already. Get over it.

Its a good thing NFL careers are determined only by rookie seasons, no need to wait in declaring one of the most amazing physical specimens in the NFL a sure fire bust. Bruce Smith has the NFL sack record, he had 6 his rookie year and he was healthy...how about we give Mario a full healthy season before we throw him in the street?
