I'm beyond done with Mills and Wade. Play Wallace, and send Happ to the minors. Happ getting killed out there isn't doing him any good.
J.A. Happ - 112 pitches in 4 2/3rds innings?! 8 pitches for every ONE out. 6 earned runs. Great work!! How is that trade looking again? An AAAA pitcher and a platoon player first baseman(Who was it, Justice, Hoffman or Footer, one of them said he isnt a starting 1B) And you're still paying that Oswalt fella 10 mil. Great work Ed Wade. I encourage you to make similar deals in the future.
And a top 100 prospect at AA as a 20 year old SS posting an OPS of .736 in AA and .752 overall for the year.
Jonathan Villar? Hmm, forgot about him. And if he does turn out to be something, good for him, but still doesnt make up for the other two "misses".
Neither is a for sure miss. Neither are stars that is for sure. If you get 2 average players and a good one, than it is okay. Happ and Ryan Rowland-Smith, both lefties that had solid starts to their careers, and suddenly fell off a cliff. I don't believe Happ will ever be the same again (unless he goes to St. Louis). Wallace I do believe can still be an average ML 1B.
Hey guys, I'm thinking about starting the Clutchfans Andy Van Hekken fan club. He's waited almost 9 years for his next call to the majors, and I believe he's got nothing left to prove in OKC. So why not call him up in a long-lost season?
nah, CJ in one month surpassed anything Truby ever did. also, IIRC, CJ got to the bigs much, much sooner than Truby.
In terms of seasons in the minors, but they were a similar age. Truby got drafted out of HS, while CJ went to college. Truby had a decent first year, but the 2nd was terrible. Truby's 2nd year OPS was better than CJ's this season.
Not related to the series, but Alyson Footer's blog post today about the aliases that ballplayers use at hotels was entertaining: http://footer.mlblogs.com/2011/07/2...raveling-ballplayers-its-all-about-the-alias/ Best part:
on my wedding night, in an effort to thwart my groomsmen from shennanigans...i checked into a hotel under the name, Bill Doran.
Why the heck not? When they shut down Lyles later in the season to limit his innings, maybe he'll be the beneficiary. As far as Wallace goes, I think I even sensed some frustration out of JD last night during the broadcast. He basically said that one of the coaches has got to find a way to get Wallace to engage his lower body more in his swing. He said that as he is right now, he might be a decent hitter for average, but if you're a high average hitter at first base and you don't hit for a whole lot of power, you'd better be Mark Grace. And I don't think anyone thinks he is Mark Grace.
How about when they take Happ out of the rotation. That would be sooner, and he certainly deserves it.
Pence made that catch interesting... I half-expected it to go over his head. Nearly 3 in 3 days, regardless of factors.
