 Nope... but the one he did miss was in a scoreless Game 7 of the 1968 World Series. Similar to what we just saw from Pence but the ball was better hit and it would've been a more difficult play to make: http://retrosimba.com/2011/06/12/should-curt-flood-have-caught-jim-northrups-drive/ No U2 concert before that game either.
Hey now...to much coincidence for me that they put in a new field in and Pence slips and falls. Not saying it wasn't his fault but it played a part in the crime. Yesterday it was all about the sun and Pence wasn't the first or last guy to lose a ball in the sun at wrigley.
You missed the point. It's very possible that it contributed to the play, if not likely. Nobody is debating that. Nobody really knows yet to be honest. However, had he made a proper read on a fairly straight forward line drive, he doesn't slip in the first place.
ALTUVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE No, I agree, Pence did mis-read that badly and like I said, not saying it wasn't his fault, but good turf and he recovers to make the catch...maybe.
Maybe he does but the broader and more significant point getting past that one play is that Pence doesn't make good reads in the outfield. That's what we were getting at.
Altuve = hit machine. .400/.438/.467 in his first 15 AB's... and he hasn't yet begun to find his big league XBH power, nor has he gotten a chance to showcase his basestealing ability.
Question then...just off the top of your head, how often has that happened to Pence this season? Just to be clear, I understand he does take unusual/bad routes to fly balls but how often does it bite him? Big AB for Bourn.
It's not just Wallace I'm talking about, there's been many a head-scratcher from where I'm sitting. When you have nothing to work with, it's hard to know what the thought process is. Like I said, I can't figure him out. Plus, he's a walking cliche-machine so you're not getting anything useful from him. I miss Garner.
I will also just state for the record that I am sick and tired of watching Hunter Pence play baseball. ****ing muppet.
I'll answer your question with a question: Would you rather have an OFer who makes good reads/routes or bad reads/routes? Even if it rarely hurts, you... the difference between a good OFer and bad OFer in terms of mistakes is marginal. Just a couple of bad mistakes by an OFer is significant. And errors have little to nothing to do with this argument, just in case you were gonna go there.
Nope errors don't tell the tale...how many errors does CLee have and do we think of Carlos as a good OF, so I get you there. This will sounds like I am blindly defending Pence but so be it, I want an outfielder who makes the routine plays and the tough plays. If Pence would constantly be costing us outs and runs then I'd understand but he throws out runners, makes difficult plays and makes the easy plays. Does he look and act like a good OF, heck no, but I'm fine with his play as long as he gets the job done. I also know, defensive metrics kill him, well they also praise CLee...enough said about defensive metrics.
Altuve is our best hitter. Put him in the cleanup spot. Brett Wallace can get onbase. Bat him leadoff.
