Hunter rips one off Lopez. Was worried after we couldn't score in Michaels' AB. I had a feeling we'd need at least one insurance run.
Very nice swing by CJ for his 10th double. That was the first time I've seen Wallace. Those are some freaking tree trunks he's walking around on. Bagwell must be proud...
Moments away from officially being AHEAD OF THE CUBS in the standings. That is, unless the Cubs score 18 runs in the 9th.
You felt something special, apparently. Will still be a tough task. There will surely be some lulls along the way.
The sports gods need to stop crapping on Cleveland. Carlos Santana with potentially a devastating injury: http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/ne..._id=12946368&vkey=news_cle&fext=.jsp&c_id=cle Some early reports say it may not be as bad as it looked. Then again, take a look if you have the stomach for it. Note the view at about 0:50 where they pause it.
The Chicago Cubs have no future, all their money is tied up to players who have horrible contracts and their only getting older. They will be fighting with the Pirates for 6th place in the Central for years to come Milwuakees next!! 3rd place!!!!
Myers made the following point in his post-game in reference to how this team has been playing recently (paraphrasing): "These young guys come up and opposing pitchers spend the better part of a season trying to figure out how to pitch to them. Then, it's up to them to make the adjustment." Nothing surprising there just a reminder when evaluating players like CJ, Onhell, etc... Remember Maysonet's stint... Towles' 1st stint, etc... Once pitchers see these young guys several times, that's when the real test begins to see if they can make adjustments to the adjustments. CJ's been awesome but it'll be far more impressive and meaningful if he's still posting a .900 OPS after 5 or 600 plate appearances. If he has an OPS north of .800 at this time next year, I'd be very happy.
On another note, without checking the stats to verify it, it seems like Keppinger is sort of our Zobrist lite... okay, Zobrist super-lite. Yes, I know that he's not nearly the same talent as Zobrist, esp. when you factor in defense. All I'm saying is that Kepp seems capable of producing about the same no matter where you slot him in the lineup. Just a solid, consistent plate approach that allows him to be largely unaffected by how a pitcher comes at him. Having said that, his career numbers and defense still point to him being a guy that should be used as a situational hitter or occasional starter against LHP. On the other hand, he had a respectable .754 OPS against RHP this season before this game, good for 80 points above his career average. Still, his .675 career OPS against RHP combined with his below average defense mean he's not an ideal everyday player, which probably isn't all that important in our situation. Just some observations. One thing is for sure: He's been a tremendous value for this team at a little over $1 million. He wasn't expected to be anything more than a bench player until the official end of the Kaz era. I would be fine with bringing back both he and Michaels next season as bench players and vet presences for a rebuilding team.
I definitely know what you are saying, and you are almost assuredly correct, but man is it fun to watch these guys right now.
I agree that I can be a Debbie but I think of it more as setting realistic expectations. I am definitely enjoying watching them and the direction of the team for what it's worth.
