One mistake against Pujols and... Myers was actually locating well in that AB until that one pitch. It's funny how you hear rumblings about "what's wrong with Pujols?" when he's still top 3 in every major offensive category. He's just that good that if he's not number 1, something is wrong.
16 pitches to Pujols and Holliday, no outs. He didn't pitch that poorly. Both hitters fought off some good pitches. Now, a broken bat single. Needs something good here... like a DP. Molina is good at doing that.
OK, Myers in big trouble now. The streak is in jeopardy. If he gives up 2 or less and stays in the game, that would be an OK result.
Excellent result. He really didn't pitch too badly to anybody in that inning. Pujols and Holliday fouled off a bunch of pitches. Rasmus broke his bat. The walk to Molina was bad along with that one pitch to Pujols.
Perhaps Myers' best quality: His attitude. He battles and rarely caves in. It seems like as long as he doesn't get frustrated, he is able to recover from bad situations or innings pretty consistently.
That was a really good pitch he threw inside to induce the weak pop out. Kept the streak alive. The 4 walks in 6 IP was a season high rate for one game.
Myers had a caeer low HR/9 and BB/9 coming into this game. The BB/9 may be back near his career rate after tonight. The HR/9 is still sparkling. Some of the folks over at TCB worry about serious regression and point at numbers that suggest Myers has had plenty of good luck in addition to pitching well this season.
Unreal... Pence follows a great play with what has become an all too common poor one. It wasn't easy but one that had to be made. Since just before the AS break, he's made at least a handful of horrible plays.
Sadly, there have been so many that it's hard to rank it. I've seen 2 or 3 at least this season that I'd say were worse.
