WTF just happened??? How does this verison of the Astros go into St Louis and sweep??? WOW...just WOW
Happy to be wrong about everything else... I give up trying to predict this team, no point, just sit back and enjoy the ride.
First MLB team to win a series at Bush Stadium this season.... First MLB team to SWEEP the Cardinals this season.
I'll give you the Craig Biggio answer which is cliche and correct all at once: "that's baseball." Honestly, this is why you play 162 games...because the margin between good and great or mediocre and good is razor thin....and you don't get a feel for it watching a team for a month. We've seen teams look entirely different over the second 81 than the first 81. Now move that sample size down to 3 games....even the worst can be better than the best over just 3 games.
True True, amazing how everytime you think you've got baseball figured out it throws a nasty Curveball that buckles your knees.
Bah...they will probably go lose several next to some scrub team. Then, we will all be scratching our heads again. I do admit, though. I'm impressed with how this series turned out. It actually got my attention. The Cards seemed to be doing an Astros impersonation this series.
Tommy Manzella is terrible. He should be in AAA. Bring up Oswaldo Navarro who has been playing really well in Round Rock hitting .360. He isn't a great hitter but couldn't be any worse than Manzella.
Isn't that how things become cliché in the first place? By being accurate? Awesome post, btw. Wouldn't let me rep. (What is it, 25? This is nuts.)
It's interesting that we are killing the team for not hitting and rightfully so but guess who threw a 1-hitter today for the Padres??? Mat FREAKING Latos, the same guy who dominated the Stros last week. Not saying our "O" is any good, not by any means, but we have faced some pretty dam good pitching so far.
Most surprising thing is that Norris went 8 innings. Too bad Norris can't do this on a regular basis. Same goes for Paulino. Berkman's OPS is up to .836. Unfortunately we have to face Lincecum and Zito for the 2nd time this season in the next series.
Paulino's looking pretty good in his last few starts though. Going 8 IP is a lot to ask consistently out of a pitcher, but 6 would be a good start for Paulino and Norris
Just finished watching the game on DVR. -Carpenter's a punk, there was always something about him I didn't like, obviously an awesome pitcher though -Norris was great... I was really impressed with the way he battled back from a 3-0 count against Ludwick in the bottom of the 4th... he was keeping the ball down and locating his pitches for the most part... the ball slipped out of his hands a couple of times which seems to happen to him once or twice per start... very few well hit balls... regrouped at least twice after it looked like he was losing his command -Berkman looking like Berkman again -Pence is really strong, if he can stay back and start hitting the ball the other way a little more often, he'll become a much more dangerous hitter
