Not at all. But you still happened to say he has a no-hitter when nobody else had, and there was a base-hit the batter right after that. Sorry you don't believe in it... I'd avoid the number 13 as well if I were you.
That was one of my most exciting stretches as a sports fan despite it not resulting in postseason success. You could literally feel the electricity in the air. And keep in mind that this was coming literally on the heels of the axiom that it wasn't possible to pitch/(win) at Enron. What could have been. They bring up Roy and he's absolutely dominant. Carlos Hernandez was even better than was Roy at first going through an insane stretch without giving up more than 2 runs. Wade Miller had come into his own. The absolute peak of the bubble was when the rumors started flying of Redding's imminent call-up. He was even more renowned than Oswalt if I'm not mistaken (?). I love young pitching.
Today I ordered a pint of lager whilst watching the England v Australia cricket and immediately afterwards Ian Bell was out. Perhaps I should stick to cider now. Also, I ate a pizza today. On the way out of the restaurant, I tripped over. Perhaps I should stick to burger and chips? Can you not see that two completely unrelated events occuring within a certain timeframe of each other does not mean that one caused the other? It's ridiculous. I understand the whole don't mention it thing, but as far as I'm aware, most people treat it tongue in cheek, and they don't HONESTLY believe it like you appear to
Yep... Valverde isn't exactly Mariano Rivera to be going for these multiple-inning saves. But it simply points out the state of the bullpen when you can't count on Sampson or Arias much anymore, and Hawkins is shingled. And low and behold, Valverde gets a gift from the gods... a Pujols K.
and luckily we were wrong! pujols is 2 for his last 20 at bats against the astros, that encompasses the last 2 series.
Oh, its tongue-in-cheek for me as well... until people puposely make a mockery of it, and then the jinx holds true. I guess you don't believe in mojo, a hot streak, or just plain luck either. Man, your life can't be much fun (minus drinking a pint and watching cricket... where'd you do that?) Figures a likely Brit vs. Aussie doesn't care much about the nuances of America's pasttime
I wouldn't say we were wrong. I like Jose's mental makeup and his stuff but something about his mechanics tends to make me uneasy.
Who said anything about soccer? Hot streaks are caused by a guy/team being in good form or simply freak anomolys in the statistics. It's a bit like if you flip a coin over and over you WILL at some point encounter 20 heads in a row, this isn't luck or a streak or anything like that, it's an absolute statistical fact that this will happen at some point. Same in baseball really, if a guy bats .300 it's inevitable that at some point he will get X amount of hits in a row. Not sure what soccer has to do with anything, The Ashes is cricket and I was supporting the English.
Yea, I quickly edited it. Where'd you catch the match? Also, you don't need to lecture me in statistics and probability.... my college thesis was based in that. Which is what makes "hot streaks" "due factors" and "averages" so much fun... and also why I love the game of baseball, as it is almost 75% numbers driven. But, within that other 25% include things like "don't mention a no-hitter if there is one".
