Of course not... but if somebody had mentioned it where I was, and then they had it broken up, I would have blamed that person. Its pretty simple.
Today, they have been lapses. He owns several AB's in a row, but then can't find the plate against suspect hitters... that's the definition of a "lapse". Its not like he's all over the place all the time... like Russ Ortiz.
He definitely has confidence in his stuff... but I fear that scouts will pick up on his tendency to simply throw fastball-slider. He needs to mix that changeup in a little more... but you can't ask for much more from a guy making his first start against a first-place ballclub on the road. But as far as presence goes... nothing will quite measure up to Oswalt in 2001 (aka, BADASS). Carlos Hernandez came close. Redding simply pretended to have moxy. Ever since then, there hasn't been much to speak of... till now.
YES!!!!!!!! That was fantastic. Getting down 3-0 and to come back and get the K. The kid is showing pride and promise. I love it. What took them so long to bring this guy up. Typical from this organization.
That was among the worst calls I've seen this season. Thurston should have been on 1st. That was impressive stuff from Bud despite the lapses.
I saw a clear Ball 4, low and outside. It really wasn't even close, in my opinion. Bud will take it though.
And if he has a bad stretch at some point this season (like Paulino did, like Towles did, even like Wandy did)... people will just as quickly lose faith. I can already tell that the organization probably wanted him to mix in his changeup even more than he had been. Enough that he has confidence throwing it in all situations. He does not have that yet. If he never gets it, he won't be a starting pitcher for long. Then again, this is the same regime (ie - Drayton, Tal Smith) that held Oswalt back till May of 2001.
So because you believe in something ridiculous and illogical, everyone around you should modify their behaviour to please you?
So I watch a couple of disaster games by the Astros, forget Norris is pitching today, and decide to miss the game.
