Is there a smarmier jerkoff in baseball?

With the possible exception of LaRussa, of course.

I loved the mid-00's rivalry with the Cards, lots of good hard-nosed ball, mutual respect, guys that played it right, etc. These co-ards ain't your momma's co-ards. I was pretty shocked Ankiel didn't pull the johnny leg sweep on Towles earlier in the game.

sportscenter showed 3 highlights - ankiel throwing error, pujols homerun, ankiel thrown out at home....

didn't the astros play in this game and kick some cardinal butt? how about showing some of pence's 5-5?

I told myself the same thing. They showed Lee's and Tejada's stats (I think) but failed to mention Pence's 5 for 5.

Good, Bumkowski seriously needs to work on his pitching. Him and Villareal, thus far, have been utter trash.

Villarreal has definitely been horrible this season but at least he has a history of success and is pretty young.

Bumkowski has always sucked. I would be ecstatic if he never wears an Astros uniform again.

This is probably more than a little premature, but here is a question for Astros fans:

Given Chacon's performance thus far, if he continues through the year he may be in a position for a multi year deal and a bit of competition. Given history of extreme ups and downs, however, that would seem like a big risk.

If he pitches through the year, would you match on a modest starter's contract (say something like 3 years, and in the range of 18 to 24 million) or would you let him walk for that?

I still believe he is going to hit a rough patch sooner or later, so it may be moot, but what if?

Here are career stats, in case anybody wants to check.

Chacon has yet to show me he will fall off. He's got some pretty good stuff this year but like you said his career stats show somthing different.

This is a hard one but I'd probably give him the $$ rather than letting him walk as long as he can show the same kind of play & not let up for 2-3 games in a row.

Offer him arbitration? Then if he walks, we get draft picks, no? Even an extra third would help, given the farm's current condition.

It's always nice to see national recognition, but unfortunatley, it rarely happens...It was nice to see Berkman get some a couple of weeks back...

Glad we picked up a win and need another one...

The Astros are the only team with 3 players that rank in the top 15 NL batting averages.

WLW. I do question the wisdom of Wandy's first start in a while being against the Cardinals away from home. Like it or not he seems to have problems with confidence. Pitching to right handers like Puhols probably is a recipe for a bad outing. I would prefer they put him in a better position to win his first time back. I hope I'm wrong but I think he may have a rough outing tonight and I hope that doesn't hurt him the next few starts as his confidence might be shaken.

Really unfortunate for Wandy. He's forced two grounders that were too weak to be double play balls, creating the error by Matsui and now the groundout.

Now Towles can't stop the pitch.

Pretty unlucky 3 run inning, all in all.

His stuff looks fine, command a bit shaky.

Wandy pitched well that inning with the exception of the walk to Ludwick.

Maybe Wandy should suck less balls on the road.
