Nice to see Nieve doesn't get the same zone Carpenter does... hell, even the Cards announcers are pointing that out.

Not really... Backe is not the same pitcher in the regular season as he is in the playoffs... and this team still remains in striking distance as long as the "big 3" are pitching well (which they are).

If Clemens misses another start, THAT injury will be the death knell.

This team needs pitching, pitching, pitching going into next season... whether it be through Pettite/Clemens or somebody else. Only Hirsh seems to have a chance to both start next year, and improve (out of the young-ins). Buchholz needs to work on his command, and Wandy needs more AAA time to work on getting as much out of his mediocre stuff that he can get.

    exactly the point.

it's mentally draining too i'd imagine on the team.

the last time they failed to get to .500 they lost 8 out of 10 following that game (or 7 out of 10, tomato potato).

looks like the same trend this time as well :\

Ass whoopin tonite, this one is going to hurt us bigtime. :(

It may as well be 21-0 against Carpenter. Probably going to be 20 straight scoreless innings after tonight.

And just when you think things are looking up, it all crashes back down to earth. If this team hasn't had "it" since the first month of the season, it might be foolish to think they'll miraculously get "it" back with three weeks to go.

Eh...miracles have happened before (I just can't ever give up on 'em).

i think they pretty much tanked this game knowing they couldn't win tonite and save pettitte and oswalt for the next two games.....even though we've been able to get to carpenter the last 3 times in regular season
don't know why they would do that with so little left in season....but whatever

Ausmus and Palmeiro are trying hard to give complete shut-out game to Carpenter.

    2 pitches,2 outs.

    Just awesome.

sorry I didn't check back on this thread until now. I am on my treo so I don't know if this will work

    hotsheet.rototimes.com/article.php?sport=bsball&type=mash&name=F20060908181612

if that doesn't work then just go to hotsheet.rototimes.com

that story was from the 8th so I think things might have changed. I saw a blurb that he was not a hip replacement candidate but would instead have his hip bone shaved (ewww) to alleviate the pain. either way it sounds bad.

no joke, that's what being a fan through and through gets ya huh? lol

yeah, i mean if this were the usual astro bound playoff team, they'd of shown signs of getting their **** together before 20-25 games to go in the season, but sadly enough that's just not the case and never was really.

The collective many, led by yourself, have already buried them 18 times... why not another one? ;)

Also, you should be hoping that Luke Scott shows enough in the final three weeks to ensure a spot in next year's everyday lineup... right now, if they're serious about targeting Carlos Lee (as well as keeping Huff... who won't break the bank), that's the corner OF offense they have to have.

Jimerson is a 27 year old strikeout machine who's yet to face a steady dose of MLB pitching (that WILL exploit his weaknesses). Just think about it... if it took Jason Lane as long as it did to make it to a MLB roster... how good do you think Jimerson really is if he can't crack a team that is CRAVING a corner OF with power?

it is a long time until basketball season. It has been a very rough sports year for all of us. Texans, Rockets, Astros, and now Texans again.

on another note- do you guys think the Astros players believe they can make the playoffs? They all say the same thing-" we have a good team, the talent is here, etc. but then they go out and lay eggs.

I think they believe...this is a team capable of making the playoffs, ESPECIALLY in such a weak NL class. But for whatever reason the chemsitry and fire just hasn't been there this season.

Biggio hitless for sixth straight games. He is hitting .171 since the beginning of August.

If they had only drafted Reggie Bush the division title would be a lock.

we can't win every game on out so i don't have that big of a problem losing the carpenter-buchholz matchup. that said, we HAVE to win the next two and take 3 out of 4 next time we play them.(hopefully roger, roy, and andy are lined up for that) if we somehow accomplish that, the division could be ours.
