I am just curious. As the eternal optimist, I must ask how many of you actually thought we were going to win tonight? I will admit, I did at first when Andy was in but when he left I just felt like that was it. I was surprised we got runs. Our infielders screwed up and luckily we had a umpire screwing them over for us. I think the Cards should put Lidge on their payroll. Or Gar should never let Lidge close against Pujols. Let Palmeiro pitch before Lidge. This was just such a heartbreaker but even thought I would be the one singing hymns on a sinking boat instead of making rafts, I don't expect to win any game these days unless Oswalt is pitching. I feel terrible but man, this is painful.

It's different with the Texans. They're just not very good. It's a lot more distressing to lose with a team that's more talented than almost all of the teams they play.

Should we have raved about him because he was finally getting it done for 9 games after a below average year? The dude's era is over 5 again and guys are batting .333 (5/15) on him in Sept. Are you surprised that people are pissed off about a game that could have brought us 3.5 games back within the wildcard spot? Lidge was great and we loved him until that Pujols homerun. I think you forgot he gave up the Podsednik homerun too. Bottom line....we need a new closer cuz like it or not, Pujols will be in our division for YEARS to come

i was pretty damn distressed after Sunday. and i'm not sure there were many here who had lower expectations for the Texans this season than I did.

I have noticed a slow down in the hits to my lidge support group on myspace. I know I was hard on him but I still have faith in him as a closer, just not against Pujols with guys on in the bottom of the ninth with 2 strikes. Anyone but Albert Lidge would have struck out. I just think he shrinks up with Pujols, it's hard to know what to throw that guy. But, they did walk Howard, so they could have loaded the bases with a walk and let him strike out the next dude. Maybe they didn't want to put another man in scoring position but I think that should have been a lesser concern.

i was flipping back and forth to the rockets jazz 97 game and was hoping for two victories but only got one....go eddie!

my 2 cents...i know hindsight is 20/20, but wheeler has only given up 1 run in the 2nd half, why couldn't he have gone 2 innings to finish the game?
have somebody else in the eighth and let wheeler finish....going through the heart of the order, i would have brought wheeler back for the ninth...

    but thats me

    over and out

exactly how many times have we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory this season?

the sad thing is however many times lidge has done it the rest of the team has done it at least as much. it seems like 9 or 10 times we've basically had a win wrapped up and then just got kicked in the balls and lost. the kinds of losses we've maybe had 2 or 3 of each year the last few years. meanwhile a team like cincinnati seemingly wins every game in their final at bat and just pulls wins out of their ass (not that cincy was who we wanted to catch).

as someone said, this has just been a season to forget. it never seemed to get going. people were out early, then we were waiting for clemens, then we added huff but nothing happened. pettitte got going but then not really, lane and ensberg never did anything approaching good, anytime things seemed good lidge would blow a game, if our hitters hit well then the pitching sucked even worse, if the pitchers were good then the hitters would get shutout, brad ausmus somehow went like 0-43 at one point, when lidge wasn't F'ing us the rest of the bullpen was, the younger pitchers would pitch well then give up 8 runs, nothing just ever seemed to have any continuity. we never seemed to have an identity.

like last year, even when we struggled, we had a good pitching, bad hitting identity and we kept it while we won, the hitting just got slightly better. we would win 5-2, 4-2, 3-1, and managed to string a lot of them together with the occasional 3-1 loss and things just seemed to click, even if we weren't that dominating. we basically got every win we could. this year everything was just effed up all around.

sucks that that might have been the end of the window for contending. maybe we'll make some smart moves, add some hitting, and the younger pitchers will figure it out and we'll open up a new one.

if petitte is out for the year it makes no difference whether we won this game or not.

Even in a year where the Astros suck, even worse than the rest of the ****ty National League....I still feel pain when we lose.

The Astros win, I have a good night. They lose....and i have a miserable night (bad mood all night).

    ugh....

Damn you Brad Lidge....how many more times are you going to make Astros fans endure your blown saves? Go away. Please.

He was destined to blow the save no matter what. That's brad lidge for you.

Maybe Phil wanted to help Lidge with his wacked out mental state by letting him take on the beast that destroyed his career. And perhaps prevail....yeah, like that would ever happen....

It was dumb for Phil to give back the closer spot to Lidge. He should be in the minors. Wheeler should be closing.

Lidge is dead to me. He was disliking him already earlier in this season...but now, when we have the entire season riding on this week....he is officially dead to me.

It would have been nice to have walked Pooholes, but i guess Lidge needed to over come his "fright" from Albert....blah.

Umm. It did happen. Earlier this season at Minute Maid. Lidge faced Pujols in a save situation and got him out.

I guess you're talking about that 436ft out to Tal's Hill that had Lidge doing his squat after the batter makes contact. Yeah, Lidge was awesome. What percentage of his appearances has he allowed a run in now? Has he passed David Weathers in effectiveness yet?
