It should never have come down to that... Yea, J-Rod seems to be mediocre against every other pitcher in the big leagues... but when it comes to Lidge, he's a HOFer... so his hit was alright. But HITTING SPEZIO on a slider that he just had no control of.... in front of Pujols... THAT was freakin huge (and it ended up being the winning run). Pujols is a god amongst men... I said that long before his HR last year... but if you have to face him, you can't give guys free passes in front of him to do so.
Because Lidge had saved 5 of the last 5 saves, that's why. BUT, as soon as Pujols walked up to the plate, Gardner wanted to prove Lidge was over his slump. Well, guess what.
**** LIDGE **** LIDGE **** LIDGE **** LIDGE **** LIDGE ****...****...****...****...****....] Okay I'm done...i'm going to have a heart attack.
Lidge made a nice pitch. Not much you can do about a broken bat hit like that. Albert didn't come close to 'smoking' it. He was just barely able to muscle the ball out there.
As soon as he hit Spiezio I knew what was coming. Actually, I knew what was coming before that but I thought he'd walk Speizio, not hit him on the first freakin pitch.
This game should have 10-4 we had so many chances to add to the lead, it shouldn't have even come to that. DAMMMIT f'n Astros. We are going to have a dissapointing no playoff baseball season, and now we get to sit through watching Reggie Bush torture the Texans and watch Mario Williams fail. November(Rockets) can't come soon enough. We get to see a team with a coach that has some balls.
Lidge also has not looked good in 90% of the games where he actually got the save. The guy was lucky and his numbers were horrible. I don't care about save numbers or save percentages. When a guy gets lucky in getting saves and almost blows it every time like Lidge does, the save numbers mean nothing. I agree with you about Garner's wishful thinking that he was over his slump, but he has fallen in that trap 3 or 4 times this season. FIRE GARNER!
Lidge had been pitching a lot better lately. There was no reason not to bring him in there. I mean who else do you go to? And you don't want to walk Pujols and put the winning run on 2nd. This game was just a microcosm of this season. It wasn't lost by any one person alone. It was lost when Pettite exited early from injury; lost when numerous scoring opportunities were squandered and yes, lost when Lidge gave up the hit to Pujols. There's plenty of blame to go around.
Yeah the problem was not that Albert beat him ... Albert beats a lot of guys. The problem was hitting Speizio before Pujols. I'd have rather Lidge given Spezio 3 pitches straight down the middle than a good pitch to Pujols. It's been the same story with Lidge all season, but apparently Garner hasn't been paying attention. Fire Garner!
LMAO! The funny thing is having my brother telling me to "flip to the game" with two outs and Pujols coming up with -- you guessed it -- Lidge on the mound. Of course, we knew what was about to happen. In all honesty, there was little anticipation or nerves involved, I knew he was going to blow it...and he didn't let me down. It's like watching a really, really bad movie with a very predictable script. It's also like watching a train-wreck...you just can't bring yourself to look away.
Funniest post of the year! Van Gundy is a ****ing moron and the worst coach in this town. If having balls means perpetually ****canning and badmouthing your players in the press in order to take the spotlight off your horrible coaching skills, then yea, he has balls. LOL at you.
I was listening to the game on the radio, and the two radio announcers said after the game that "the way lidge has been pitching lately, I would take him against Pujols every time." I didnt like these announcers in the first place, but the more and more I listen to them, the more stupid they sound.
