I can't effing BELIEVE that dumb mother****er (Garner) would pitch to that guy after all this time. After all he's done to us.
Its not just our pen that's bad today... its the manager putting in guys in situations they shouldn't have been in, or are not accustomed to being in. Trever Miller is a SITUATIONAL lefty... but Qualls is better against lefties than any other pitcher we've had for the last few years. Also, as said before, for Qualls to be ultimately effective, he needs to start an inning.
All I really meant by what I said was I hope we get something going against their pen. Though I more than understand why you're in a defensive mood in here.
When can we just make Ausmus the player-manager and be done with it? I trust his decisions, and his knowledge of the pitching staff, more than I would any other potential manager. BTW... Wainwright is nasty... future Cy Young calibur pitcher right there.
Especially after you go down 2-0? Why even throw him anything to hit at that point? You can't say we didn't know the outcome cause Pujols has done this to us more than once before. What are we trying to prove pitching to Pujols in that situation? That we don't respect him enough to walk him and let someone else try to beat us for a change? It's stupid and I don't get it.
I have the feeling we can't come up with the 2 runs needed to tie this thing in the next inning. Especially since that was the heart of our order. Berkman: groundout Mo: pop up Preston: K Ugh. I'd love to see the comeback like we had against the lowly pirates to not get swept. But man........
I think at that point, Garner was so flummoxed that his team was even in that situation to begin with (2 men on with Pujols up... a situation he tried to avoid by doing ridiculous things like bringing in Trever Miller)... that he just said "**** it"... lets go for the goal! Garner manages with his heart... and for the last couple of years, he's gotten extremely lucky that his players have had just as much (if not more) heart that he has. But sometimes (especially when you're facing possible the greatest hitter of the last 50 years)... heart isn't going to win you ballgames.
You walk Albert every time....you never pitch to him...EVER!!!!! I don't care if Rolen hits a grand slam....you NEVER let their best guy beat you....ever!! You walk him!!!! Can I say it again??? You walk him!!! BTW - Garner SUCKS!!!!
Yea... I'll be interested to see if he was truly gassed (which is a possibility with the heat today, and he had a couple of lengthy innings)... or it was strictly Garner's decision. Even Jimy wouldn't take out Roy unless he absolutely begged to (Roy was the one guy he routinely let go over 110-120 pitches).
In Roy's last game, he only pitched 89 pitches (then the bullpen immediately gave up the lead) This tells me 2 things - 1) Roy probably was not so tired he couldn't go any more 2) Garner doesn't learn from his mistakes at all
like i said last series.... garner is the biggest blinded sucker that i've ever seen. trever miller is a complete joke of a pitcher, but garner sees him pitch 3 fluke innings in pittsburgh, and that gives him the confidence to put him in a 1-0 game and pitch to the top of the line up in st. louis. you have no brains, phil.
With Lamb and Munson both on the bench, how in the world can you let Adam Everett bat here? This might even be more ridiculous than taking out Oswalt.
Just cause he was well rested going into today doesn't mean that he was conditioned to pitch in 90+ degree heat/sun. Once again... if it was purely Gar's decision, it was dumb. But, I'm gonna wait to see if Roy had some input into that decision. Now, Garner's decision to bring in Trever was all on him... he had a whole half inning to think about it, so you know it wasn't a question of "who can warm up the fastest." It had nothing to do with lefty-righty either.
Because our manager is currently too focused on players' confidence over the stretch of a long season, instead of winning as many games as possible. Garner should be the cheerleader... and somebody else should be the tactical manager (ausmus).
