Wtf is he gonna do? Do you think that the GM and owner aren’t involved in those decisions at all? He answers to all of those guys. We need an alternative, clearly, and everyone above Dusty needs to say OK. Maybe a trade…maybe someone in the system(?)…any other ideas? I played 2B in high school, but I can’t cover 1B…I’m too short. We need ideas. I won’t rest until we all figure this out tonight on CF.
I was thinking something like this as well. It's been a while since the team has had an injection mid season from an elite prospect. Hasn't happen since Yordan in 2019 iirc. Could provide a spark. This team needs an influx of more hitting talent. Can't continue to rely on mainly elite pitching for serious contention.
Even with 20/20 hindsight it was unlikely the Astros were going to do well in free agency. Pretty much all of the 1st baseman linked to the Astros have not been very good. I'm not including Rizzo because he had the qualifying offer and I don't believe the Astros really could have gotten him away from the Yankees. Yuli and Josh Bell have not been good this year. Ji Man Choi who was also linked in trade to the Astros has been atrocious. Just looking at performances/value so far the best moves the Astros could have made were 2 of Bellinger, Kiermaier, and Gallo. Benintendi has not been worth his contract so far. Contreras is a dumpster fire in St Louis. Vazquez and Barnhart have been awful. Zunino has not been good. Conforto has been meh but an OPS at .769 for 18 million with a player option is nothing special. Better than what the Astros have gotten from Brantley so far though.... Odds are it didn't matter who was GM. If the Astros signed a 1st baseman and a LF/DH they were probably going to be disappointed with the results. The catchers the Astros were linked to have been bad as well...
What manager do you think would do this? Correa, Trea Turner, Lindor, etc - every premium free agent acquisition hits where they were paid to hit, no matter if they are sucking or not. The Astros have 2 1/2 more years with Abreu, and it's unlikely he'll get benched or hit below 6th for any of it. It's like people have lost their minds with Dusty and just are looking for things to attack him for.
Plenty of managers would move him down Very few on here are asking for him to be benched, we get that he is going to play But there are endless number of examples of older players making big money getting moved down because they sucked for two months And no, lol, if he keeps this up he won’t stay in the middle of the lineup for all 3 years lol. Dusty won’t likely be around that long to continue putting him there And as much as some of us criticize Dusty, you blindly back him up Why doesn’t McCormick play vs every LHP we face when he pounds them? Why is Diaz glued to the bench when our GM put a 3rd catcher on the roster solely so Dusty could use him at DH and 1B some Why is Peña not used in the 2 hole when he won two playoff MVPs hitting there after being great when used there in the regular season last year, and in a small sample size has mashed there again this year. What logical reason would you give us for not using him there now, as our offense struggles so badly We have scored a hundred less runs than the leaders of our division, I would love to hear your reasoning for backing Dusty on these moves And I mean specifically these, not really looking to hear that we have to believe in him because he won the World Series (once in 26 years)
if angels win tonight, they will only be 1.5 games back behind astros. if mariners win tonight, they will only be 2.5 games back behind astros. this team need to get their shiz together especially offense because all the teams have improved except for the As. (someone check my math).
This guy trying to be the joker or the riddler.... all I hear is bulls-hit coming out his mouth... wasn't he perfectly fine in his California abode... or even in a coach-player role? I may be mistaken... but GD dude: Abreu, Ausmus & being a talking piece for NOT celebrating a championship season & roster here on out... + whatever other fvckery has happened...??! Just wondering here, did you NOT try the same recruitment pitch for Yuli or any other 1B and/or try to "develop" those recruits better as a player...? ...you wanna be a part of the team-- keep your words/thoughts to your players from a coaching / hitting perspective. Numbers dont lie. That MF is going to be THE worst signing in Astros history... kinda like when Ed fckn Reed was signed by the Texans... you must talk a slick game though... Everyone is going to point to you when this season is done & we don't go back-to-back.
Astros are lucky they don't play in the AL East where every team is a playoff contender. Yanks suck but they do play in the most stacked division.
Altuve Pena (bats .300 in this spot) Alvarez Bregman (he's about to put it in overdrive) Tucker Abreu DH CF C Just get the first 6 spots in the order correct, for Christ's sake, that's all I ask. It takes the pressure off Abreu to be in the 6th spot.
Abreu shouldn't be in ANYONE'S lineup ... use him as a utility / contingency hitter if someone else has to exit. Dude should realize how to earn his keep in leveling up his status/career to arguably the best team in baseball for the last 5-6 years...
Bring Gilbert up and if Brantley gets back let Abreu and Brantley split time at 1st. Is it true Brantley has been taking grounders at 1st.
1st game, Montero should of pitched in the blowout. Then our savior gave Pressley and Neris,3 days off. Some manager thought the 1st game is indicative of the series.
There was plenty of evidence and data to support signing Abreu. There were zero great options or those without negatives or risk. Crane, Bagwell, and the Astros decided on Abreu and it can be argued that it was the best choice. There sure were plenty of happy fans on this board when it happened. Since then, Bagwell has zero control of what has happened. All the insults and negativity are hypocritical and unfair unless you said the same things when you found out about the signing. Now Abreu and Dusty on the other hand deserve all the ire and venom we want to spew. Abreu has been historically bad and does not appear to be making any changes or adjustments to try and improve. Dusty keeps putting him in the lineup everyday and in a spot where he needs to drive Bregman, Yordan, and now Tucker if they get on base- or else the Astros don't score runs. Abreu needs to sit one out if every 3 games and not hit above 6th until he returns to his White Sox form.
Dusty answers to Crane. Considering Dusty outlasted Click, I think Brown is still figuring out how to affect change without causing turmoil. Also, this is a crappy situation, and any change with internal options might not be worth butting heads with the manager.
