I guess if you put it that way, then yeah, trading him would be the best possible outcome. My point is that signing a reliever for too much money, in the hopes of trading him for prospects, is almost always a bad deal. The only potential exception is said reliever looking like an ace closer. Otherwise, you're much better off going for starting pitchers, who by virtue of their position tend to bring more in any trade.
Agree 100%. I'm certain that Wade never had that intention. He simply paid too much for a reliever for a team that wasn't even likely to contend during the length of his contract. As long as Wade and Co. continue to build up the farm, they are addressing priority number one. We won't know how well they drafted for a few years but at least they are committing resources to the effort and appear to have helped McLane see the light. The horrible product on the field certainly had to help in that regard, too. I also agree that overspending in free agency could take away from what we do in terms of drafting/signing players, in the standard draft and internationally. I often hear people say "why do you care how much we spent on player x in free agency, it's not your money?" but I never bought that argument at face value. There is still a bottom line. Money spent is money spent. If McLane spends millions less on a pointless free agent signing, it's probably easier to convince him to spend at least some of that amount in other more important areas.
Willie Mays Bourn Awesome! Must see play if you missed it. Coincidentally, it was off the bat of Jim Edmonds.
Well, he's on a 5-game hitting streak with 3 multi-hit games. And in his 2 ABs tonights, he's hit the ball pretty well, particularly the first one. With a little better luck, at least one of those lands fair.
Castro takes a real tough pitch for a ball then rockets the next one to RF for a double. He actually got ahead of a 94 mph fastball. I've said it a few times but his bat speed is better than what I expected. He showed it there. On top of that, he already has as many walks as Q does on the season. He arguably got robbed of 2 or 3 walks last night as well.
Myers gets burned for allowing baserunners. For a guy that historically has given up plenty of HRs, this season he's avoided the long ball pretty well.
A Brewers fan that was on TCB last night felt that the ump was messing with Castro to assert his authority over a young player he'll likely be dealing with for years. Interesting theory, true or not. Regardless, he could've easily had 3 or 4 walks on the night but ended up with only 1.
Myers having a tough go of it. Fat boy x 2. Not how you want to follow up a little rally. We'll need to score 7+ runs 2 nights in a row to win this one. Unlikely to say the least.
Feliz is playing like a guy worth half of his contract finally. Big improvement. Sure, it's only a game and a half sample but still...
Start him everyday and it'll be gone as fast as it came. He wasn't a good hitter in his prime. He's about as bad a starting offensive 3rd baseman as you'll find over the last 20 years and I'm not just talking about this season. Even in his top years, he was barely average at best. Have to look at more than the HRs.
