If SD can fall back into the pack, then we have as realistic a shot as anybody. We're one back from Cincy and Florida, 1.5 from SF, 2.5 from Philly (a few more games against them) and 4 from the whales' vaginas. We have 7 left against St. Louis and 4 with Philly, so the division and WC is still very much in grasp. And if we can manage to pull within 1 or 2 in the last week we'll have Pit and Atlanta in our last 5 games while the Padres have St. Louis and Arizona, the Cards have SD and the Brewers, the Phillies have the Nats and Florida, the Giants ahve Arizona and LA and the Reds have Florida and Pit. We have the softest schedule the last week and aside from a makeup game with the Phillies don't have to face any WC or Division contender. But we gotta get there first.

Anybody think Javy Lopez might be good for us? Quality veteran catcher who can actually hit a little bit. Can't say he's worse than Humberto quintero who is the current Ausmus backup.

I think I'd rather the Astros focus on bringing a corner outfielder and probably a #2/#3 starter assuming Clemens does retire (and considering Backe's out) then give House a shot in Spring Training. If he can show something at the plate, groom him to take over for Ausmus. If not maybe work a trade for a catcher at some point.

I think all the teams ahead of us will go .500 the rest of the way because they will be playing each other most of the time. Which means we have to go 16-6 to win the wild card if SD goes .500

It is doable but unlikely, i see us splitting games with the cards & phils, and doing well against others but not enough....

we will fall short by 2 or 3 games

sorry the pessimism is coming out today :(

I agree with that plan for next year, but I meant right now. He really is a solid hitter, much better than anything else we've got at that position and wouldn't really command much money.

Ah I see, well he's batting .190 with 0hrs and only 4rbis since being traded to the Red Sox. If the Astros put a jinx on hot hitters (Huff) then I can't imagine what the team would do for struggling ones!

Giants won 5-4 in the 11th.

Could be 3 back if the Stros win tonight.

Lance is a god.... he actually admired that one after he made contact (very rare for Lance... but it indicates what kind of a bomb he knew he just got).

This is a great start. 4-0 in the 1st on a 3 run Puma shot and a clutch hit from Everett. San Diego has lost we are now 3 back in the L column. Just as people start to forget about this team they get right back into it. An Astros win and a Padres loss, all I need now is for goddamned UT to get killed by the Buckeyes.
