It could also suggest that a outlying number of players happen to have statistics that don't revert to the mean over the course of their careers.
How large a sample size do you suggest is necessary? Bobby Abreu, Career Stats: Bases Empty: 0.280 AVG / 0.860 OPS - 2840 At Bats Runners On: 0.330 AVG / 0.990 OPS - 2285 At Bats He maintains a large differential each of the last 4 years as well (all that's all I have access to individually).
Oddly enough, a perceived lack of clutch hitting (as well as a general perception that he's lazy on defense) is the reason many Phils fans weren't sorry to see him go. (Whether they were happy with the return on him is, of course, another question.)
I didn't say the sample was too small. Eventually it would even out. I'd like to see situational hitting measured, if possible. Where you hit behind the runner, or make sure you hit a deep fly ball with a guy on third, proper bunting, etc. Good fundamental stuff. I believe a much greater percentage of guys will have a measurable difference there--if it were measureable, that is.
Luke Scott is so humble and is obviously comfortable, he is an amazing hitter. Him and Berkman in the lineup provide the nucleus for the next 5+ years. DD
This is a very solid way to start the road trip. Good hitting, hit for some power, solid starting pitching, bullpen did very good work as well and we gained a game in the L column on Cincinnati, San Diego, Philadelphia and Arizona. Keep it up boys, lets go into Cincinnati next week on a streak.
Im glad Berkman hit a homerun. We could have won game 2 and 3 against the cubbies if he wasnt slumping (and ofcourse if it wasnt for Lidge in game 2). We need Backe to step up tomm night... lets take this 1 game at a time....still have a nice amount of time left to make up 4 games
Nice to get back within 4 games of the WC ... its unbelievable that we are still in this thing, but I sure aint gonna complain.
i was just looking at the standings, of the top 10 teams in the nl wild card race 8 are 5-5 in their last 10 games. the other 2 are san diego at 2-8, and philly at 6-4.
Not cocky, but stubborn and uncoachable, according to reports from some irritated coaches back I believe in 2003, iirc.
it's an entire win.... lol we were back too after winning 8 out of 10... that being said... a win's still better than a loss, even if it is for a day.
The thing that sucks is that in the upcoming Reds series, the Reds will get to miss both Clemens and Oswalt! Oh well .. I guess we had O, Clemens, and Pettitte for the Cubs series and we know how that worked out. I might prefer to let Roy miss this Saturday's game to get a little healthier, and pitch during the Cinci series.
Scott's humility and spirituality is a breath of fresh air. I love when he admits it is a blessing from God. I bet the MLB will stop that real soon so other religions/spiritual people get offended. It's not politically correct to be a Christian these days.
