Yeah, 35 pitches in 1.1 innings. He was dominant.

    I knew it.

I tuned in, it was the 9th inning, Lidge on the mound, runners on 1st and 2nd, with only 1 out. I tuned out assuming Lidge would blow the game, and I was right.

You have to blame it on Lidge. He was charged the earned run. Thats the problem with Lidge. There is too much traffic out there when he is pitching. His WHIP is not adequate for a closer.

I blame this on Garner more than I do Lidge. We all know Lidge sucks donkey balls and he had a donkey ball 8th that he was lucky to escape. Why not put Wheeler in for the 9th? Wheeler was put in a crap situation much like that game against St. Louis where Oswalt had a relief appearance for a loss. I believe that Wheeler would have gotten the game to extra innings had he been able to pitch the entire 9th.

I have respect for Garner. He has done what Bill Virdon, Hal Lanier, Terry Collins, and Larry Dierker could not do, which was have this team win a playoff series. He led us to our only World Series. I know hindsight is 20/20 and I have the luxury of managing behind a computer screen, but I think Garner is to blame more than Lidge.

This is true. Wheeler hasnt faired too well when attempting to save Lidge's butt. Also, I am pissed that Wheeler didnt throw a ball on the first pitch.

He got out of the jam he put himself in in the 8th, and he was well on his way to doing so in the 9th as well. Should have left him in.

i just dont understand why they keep throwing lidge out there. what's the damn point??? enough is enough, the experiment is over. we had a golden opportunity to gain ground on 3 teams ahead of us and blew it.

i understand that our offense didn't show up, but throwing lidge out there in a tie game when he is clearly struggling is truely mindboggling at this point. the team is basically telling us that getting lidge's confidence back is more important than us winning.... because that's the only reason i can come up with as to why he was put in there in a tie game.

lets give some of the blame to this lame offense we have...scoring only 2 runs..i don't believe our offense put us in position to win this game

Where's Todd Jones when you need him? Garner should be fired if he keeps putting that dude out there....his performances are so redundant...how many times does he have to c it to believe it?

i agree. how many runners in scoring position were left stranded tonight?
i also agree, lidge should have been left in to get the L for himself, rather than having wheeler give it to him.

The powers that be, be they Drayton or Pupura obviously INSISTED Garner move Lidge out of the closers role.

But that doesn't mean Scrap is not gonna insist on putting him in at every opportunity to blow up in close games in non save situs.

I stayed away from the Stros for a few days , I was just tired of all the loses and sorry play and that sick feeling in my stomach. I turned my T.V. on and said "what the Hell." There was Lidge with 2 runners on and then came Wheeler..bye..bye...I turned the T.V. off and reminded myself why I stopped watching them..Their Pathetic this year and hopefully they will be worth a damn next year......The Astros never just lose a game it has to be in dramatic fashion where you think your gonna win and one pitch just crushes you....Screw Purpura what a sorry ass GM...I wish people would stop going to the games because once you Hurt Uncle Drayton wallet he'll do something..but Oh no the sorry as Astros could lose every game and MMP is SOLD OUT !!!!!!!!!!

I was kind of in the same boat...not really watching the Astros during that 5 game skid, and those terrible losses to the Cubs, where we took ourselves further below .500 where we belong. I didn't even know about the 18-inning game until the next day when the dagger punctured my buttox. I had such high hopes for this team. They have not delivered. This pattern of inconsistency is a killer. We have a lot of the same team from last season. The offense is one big wrecking machine...either their wrecking or getting wrecked.

We still have a chance...I guess. We just have to catch up with chance...who's hanging out with Osama Bin Laden.

Backe to DL. Ugh. From official website.

By the way, this is yet another silly move from Garner and Purpura. Borkowski has been very effective in the limited time he's had this season, but he's never gotten a more extended look for whatever reason. He had a chance to get that look tonight, and instead he's passed over for one of the worst starters in the league who's struggled in AAA. I'm not sure what else there is to say.
