Did I say it was good thing? No, I didn't. But you sit here and call Orlando Palmeiro a choice name after he gets out tonight, when the guy has had HUGE HITS in multiple games in the streak. It isn't right. That isn't an action becoming of a "true" fan. A "true" fan wouldn't call a player who had multiple key hits in a 9 game winning streak a choice name. Sorry, but that bothers me. As for me, I've been waiting for this kind of streak since midseason. I never throw in the towel until they are mathematically eliminated. And I'm as much a "true" fan as you are. I have lived in a suburb of Houston all my life, my family has had season tickets 3 years running, and I was at game 3 of the NLCS last year, game 4 of the WS, game 4 of the NLDS in 04, and games 4 and 5 of the NLCS in 04. Baseball is my favorite sport, and I love the Astros. I was the one who persuaded my family to get season tickets 3 years ago when Roger and Andy came on board.
I still thought we could do it a week ago if we only lost one ... I just thought the loss was going to be the Phillies, not this one. Nevertheless, it aint over in my mind.
I told myself I would be happy if the Astros made the playoffs OR if we got Bonzi. I guess we cant have it all but there is still a chance. We need the Cards to lose the next 3 (assuming they play SF). We got screwed tonight because it was a lefty out there. The line-up that Garner sent out there is the same line up that was terrible all yr practically. Its worked lately but we made some guy that has a ERA over 4 look like a ace. Im sad but atleast we wont be under .500. The Padres not pitching around Albert was huge. Aww well....hope we come back.....there is a small chance.
Ain't dead yet. Save the epitaphs for when it's all said and done. Btw...looks like Sampson is going tomorrow. Maybe we'll see another Cy Backe in the making; just another chapter in the miracle run. C'mon gotta still Beelieve!
The Astros weren't going to win out to end the season. That's crazy. They still have a shot to win their division. I'm not giving up on them.
LOL - well you define fandom however you want to......it is all a personal choice anyway. No one is more of a fan than anyone else.....just different opinions. DD
That's it for the Astros. They are done. They are so yesterday. You know it's just too little too late for them to come back.
I think they are feeling the pressure off somewhat. They could still choke, but the Whitesox went through this last year too just before rallying at the very end....that is looking a lot like that. DD
This is not over at all, I still believe, but I do have one question: can anyone explain why that when Clemons is pitching, the Astros cannot hit? I have seen several games like the one tonight. There is no logical reason why this would be the case. It is not like he is always matched up with the ace of the other team. In fact, most of these have come when he is against a young pitcher. Any thoughts?
I wonder if they are putting too much pressure on themselves when he pitches....if that is the case....hypnotize them all and tell them Wandy is pitching... DD
I still find going 36-10 or winning the wild card after being 15-30 more impressive than this season (if they were to win the division). Yes, the Astros won 9 in a row..but it was only a possability of going to the postseason because of the Cards losing. Winning 9 in a row is not what makes is all incredible..it's the Cards choking. What is impressive is how pathetic the Astros played this season...and still had a chance to win the division. That doesn't say much about the NL Central!!!!
Roger's run support has been much better this year than it was last year... we still notice it more when we don't score for him (like watching Mario Williams on every play), but its nowhere near the "shutout per start" run the team was going through last year.
Well, no one said this was going to be easy to start with and frankly I had this game pegged for a W. But I guess this James dude is pretty good. Unfortunately for us. Well, it's pretty simple win the last 2 games or else time to golf and fish plus, the Cards have to lose at least 1 of the final 2 (preferably both) to force the makeup game with SF. It would be something for the Stros to do it but no doubt this a double whammy one tonite. I said Sheets or Capuano was good for a W. Cant believe Capuano crapped like that tonite. He never gave us an easy one that I can recall. Oh well, it still aint over, til its over but the Stros had better step up their play all around if they want to go to the postseason. Cant really be mad because what the team has already accomplished is nothing short of remarkable. No one here is gonna bash them because this is a pretty improbable, to near impossible comeback.
Can we really rely on a rookie pitcher to pitch for us in the BIGGEST GAME of the yr? If we lose basically that COULD BE IT for us ... I'm saying If ST. LOUIS lose in the afternoon vs Mil that we should go with Pettitte tomorrow night.
