Instead of banning the shift, the league should concentrate their efforts on banning those stupid Oakland drums.
A's are ready to mail it in. Jake O pitched well against them last time and Oller is not good. This one should deplete the bullpen for the A's and set up the rest of the series.

Don't worry MB it's the A's doing the mailing. Astros are battle tested and just playing the game the way it is supposed to be played. I don't see the Astros taking them for granted. Several guys on the roster have plenty to play for, like Jake O. He wants badly to be apart of this run and knows he has to set up his performances otherwise he'll be bullpen or left off the playoff roster entirely. There are plenty of guys in the lineup looking to crawl out of slow starts Yuli, and AB, young guys trying to make a mark, Lee, Meyers, Chaz. It's the dog days and teams like the A's that know it's over are not that focused anymore. Can the A's win tonight sure it's baseball but there is a reason the Astros are -220.
This is three consecutive starts for Jake against the Athletics. The first of the two was a 7-inning shutout performance and a win, so I think that's the game OP was thinking about.
I don’t think I meant it as serious as you’re taking it.. more like what @sealclubber said above, we still have winning records against these losing teams but not as good as we have against Yankees, Mets, etc.. also, playing down to opponents has kinda been a thing no?.. in every houston sport. But please go scour the internet for an hour to prove me wrong I guess…
Astros are 36-16 against teams below .500, including 15 of their last 20. Their record against teams above or equal to .500 is 28-16. (I got that info with 59 minutes to spare).
Might be a letdown day after the big series vs NYY and a high-energy sweep of SEA to go to OCo and play in front of 5 people. Something similar happened after Harvey in 2017.
That record against sub 500 teams is only 112 wins. Not good enough. 103 win pace against teams over 500. Almost acceptable. Almost.
