Stars and scrubs is great for highlights, but it is tough for the stars to carry too many scrubs for 162 games. Their sub-replacement position players and Trout have helped them about as much as Straw has helped the Astros this year.

Love that schedule -- great chance to jump As and Bos once and for all and remind the NL leaders that they will have a tough world series.

And kick Arlington around a few more times.

Its baffling. They have the resources to compete. Ohtani’s contract is actually one of the best deals in all of sports. Trout is locked up and committed and remains the best player in baseball. They have a manager that is forward-thinking and has had major success.

Yet they still fail to shore up/improve weaknesses that are glaring.

Definitely an easier schedule for the A's.

    Exactly.

Never as good as you think you are... also never as bad as you think you are... currently back on an upswing against some lesser opponents and their peripherals suggest their success is real/justifiable.

Still gotta win the damn games.

He's been hurt though. A's replaced Davis at DH and Semien at SS with Moreland and Andrus. This is a downgrade.

Of course, as always, financial considerations played into it. The least the A's could have done is trade Davis out of the division, that guy kills the Astros.

Moreland hit the IL today and the A's called up Luis Barrera.

No Astros lineup announced yet. Somebody will get a day off. It's not like we're playing for the division lead or anything.

They keep putting all their money into a few players hoping they can fill other spots with cheap guys. It takes time for a depleted farm to rebuild so it can help out the major league team. Without money to sign guys and prospects to fill voids/trade, they get left with a lot of guys that just suck filling 4-5 positions. Maybe they get some scrubs together that don't suck later this year or next, but it looks to me that they have a year or 2 left after this before they really fall apart.

I don't believe it. All our regular starters are playing. What's wrong with Dusty?

Why does Tucker continue to hit 7th. It is ridiculous. I bet that we are facing a lefty,so Yordan slid down to 5th. I kinda get it. Maybe manaea is particularly hard on lefties. But i a normal lineup, particularly against right handed pitching, the lineup should be

    Altuve
    Brantley
    Bregs
    Yordan
    Yuli
    Tucker
    Correa
    Straw
    Madly/Castro
