The good: Altuve, Alvarez, Brantley, Springer, Yuli, Diaz, Correa The bad: Bregman The ugly: everyone else https://www.espn.com/mlb/team/stats/_/name/hou/split/39/table/batting/sort/OPS/dir/desc Think about who will be getting important ABs when it really matters.
I interpret these stats completely different. There's no real solid evidence that over a long period of time, players or teams are any better in "clutch" situations than not. The Astros overall stats are in line their RISP stats: 0.274 AVG, 0.349 OBP, 0.836 OPS. However, those numbers rank #2, #1, and #1 in MLB instead of #13, #7, and #16. What that tells me is that what the Astros are doing is average and perfectly sustainable - not something they are struggling with at all. It seems like perfect evidence that they are just passing the baton from one batter to another instead of trying to do things differently in those RISP situations. Those teams doing better than them with RISP are hitting way better than they do otherwise, and I wouldn't be counting on it to last.
DPs could be another factor. An 0-1 is only one unsuccessful AB, but it's two outs. I also wonder how our basepath outs compare to other teams.
