Exactly. The run differential stat is so misleading because the Astros do pour it on teams every 2 weeks or so and win 12-1 or 14-0 etc. The Astros offense has a ton of games scoring 0 1 or 2 runs. This is not a good offensive baseball team. Look at the run distribution not just the total number of runs. They loosen up when they have a lead but sphincters tighten up in close games and they are inept offensively against good teams.
Wheels are falling off... injuries definitely derailed us big time but this is not the same line up from last year. Every one of our hitters not named Bregman is considerably worse than they were last year and I’m not sure we can just expect them to turn it on when altuve gets back. 4-0 is practically insurmountable for this lineup. How frustrating.
A's are hot right now, but this stat shows who the better team is. We have a loooong way to go before the season ends.
It’s beyond me how Keuchel starts throwing the ball right down the middle. I no longer trust him and I hope they don’t throw a ton of money at him when his contract ends
A's have that 2015 Astros feel. Good young team that is overachieving this year. Astros showing wear and tear from last year's run. Too bad we didn't bring in another bat at the deadline.
I'd have pulled Keuchel after the third double. Not that it would have really mattered, as the hole was already too big to climb out of. We'll be lucky to just avoid a sweep tomorrow.
My goodness this team is awful right now. This game is over. I know that there’s a lot of season left, but if you’re not at least mildly concerned about our ability to win the division then you need to wake up.
Don't think it's arrogance but building a contender long-term. They're still haunted by the J.D. Martinez mistake so they are not giving up too quickly on our hitting prospects. Trading for a veteran bat would mean giving up Tucker for instance. Who could have foreseen the injuries of our stars and regression of our 2nd tier hitters?
Young lion sensing a weakened pride leader. Still time to defend the throne but team has no mojo right now. All momentum in A's favor.
Yeah clinging to the run diff argument at this point is homerish. The eye test has shown this team is not consistent at the plate and can't deal with the pressure of close games. Also the sign of a good offensive team is that they can come back. This team has not come back from deficits anywhere near the rate they did last year.
This is eerily similar to the disaster weekend in Oakland last Fall: blown 9th inning lead in game 1 & lose on walkoff; get asses kicked next 3 games. But hey on the bright side: 1) we can still lead the division after tomorrow 2) it's only a 3 game series
Outside of the Dodgers series, the Astros have come up small in most of the big, circle the calender games this year.
Instead they risk holding on to some of them so long that they lose all value. Remember when AJ Reed was an untouchable prospect?
They won't have to give up the farm for some of these waived players down the stretch. The FO has had an arrogance expressing once their injured players come back they are going to be hard to beat. Other real contenders (Red Sox, A's, Indians, Yankees) have offenses that are more feared at this point. Astros are having to win pitching duels more times than not as the season has gone on.
