Fully agree. While I don't like the fact that we have no discipline on the bases, and question some of his bullpen management...overall Hinch has done a good job to have this team close to .500, with so many terrible hitters that have to play because he hasn't been given any better options, and the lack of an ace pitcher so far
While i'll stick to my thoughts that we see Bregman this year The analytical reliance of this organization certainly does fit your threshold theory
Yeah; I just find it hard to believe they have an ad hoc approach to development. They're way too anal for that. The plate appearances is 100% guesswork on my end - but I'd be shocked if they didn't have some analytical-derived standard.
Valbuena goes 3-4 with 2 homers = you're the worst GM ever Rasmus = Pinch hits in the 8th after Valbuena strikes out 3 times and and hits a game winning homer = Lunhow calls you to take Hinch's job.
There are always exceptions.... like the 2015 callups I mentioned in a similar position to Bregman (with teams in a similar position to the Astros). I also can't figure out what milestones McCullers met that Musgrove has yet to... It very well could be based on the individual, as opposed to some pre-set formula (in fact, I would hope most advanced analytical-based front offices do treat each individual unit as a unique entity, and don't attempt to lump every baseball player, or any given team, into the exact same formula). Also, with Reed... there were real 40 man considerations they had to take into account... as they would now (i'm guessing they need to figure out what Gomez is or isn't... and decide whether he's worth hanging on to, or just jettisoned for good).
I doubt it is an all or nothing situation. The Astros still rely upon traditional scouting and development.
damn, i was hoping profar and mazara would get some rest today. If mchugh has his Mccurvy ball going today, astros will be there in the 9th to close the game and tie the series. avoid the bad 1st inning. 1. Jurickson Profar, 3B (S) 2. Ian Desmond, CF (R) 3. Nomar Mazara, RF (L) 4. Rougned Odor, 2B (L) 5. Ryan Rua, LF (R) 6. Prince Fielder, DH (L) 7. Elvis Andrus, SS (R) 8. Mitch Moreland, 1B (L) 9. Bryan Holaday, C (R)
Our 8th and 9th spots are a combined .121 in June. Add in Cargo (.174 in June) and you have a .143 for the bottom third of the lineup for the month. I sure hope third base isn't the Place where Astros die again... Arrgghhh... enough negativity... 'stros win this to gain the split. Which playing a hot team on the road is an outcome I will happily take.
Man, I've been holding out hope... I mean holding out real, true hope... that we we see at least 75% of the old Milwaukee GoGo again. I hope so badly that this post is laughed at as ridiculous when he's slugging us through the playoffs in October, Carlos Beltran-style. But I'm done. He was one of my favorite non-Astros before joining the team and I actually enjoyed him last year (especially in September). Unfortunately, I've watched him swing himself out of his helmet just one too many times. It's not that his histrionics or "emotional" style of play bothers me either. I just think he's done as an above-replacement level player. I know... this post is a total non-sequitur. I'm also very late to this party. Just had to read my eulogy to the guy I thought would be Beltran 2.0.
Perez doesn't surrender many HRs.. we didn't any last game against. Let's get our smaller-ball on and win anyway.
What kind of hope do you guys hold out for White? Was so exciting the way he started but he's turned into a bit of an automatic out and he looks so dodgy at the plate the way he contorts his body all over the shop bending and swaying. Just doesn't look comfortable but that's just his style right? Are we expecting him to progress to a half decent player. He doesn't even seem capable of working counts right now which is something that looked a strength first few weeks
I'm about done with him at this level for the time being. Pitchers have adjusted and he hasn't adjusted back... time to find another option there.
Should we call up Reed? Singleton? Can't be much worse than White is right now. Is he getting some rope because of his hot start or do they have higher expectations for him than the other guys?
