Jeff Wilson @JeffWilson_FWST Yu Darvish said he isn't too worried about his shoulder tightness, which he said his near his neck. #Rangers 8:19 PM - 8 Jun 2016
God was that needed. If we can get the finale, salvaging a split in Arlington is a perfectly acceptable series result. Fister with yet another great outing, and Altuve continues his MVP level play.
Brian McTaggart @brianmctaggart Neshek has a 1.46 ERA in 15 outings since May 1 after having a 5.14 ERA in April. 8:57 PM - 8 Jun 2016
Gonna guess the lineup tomorrow. Springer Altuve Correa Gattis Gonzalez Gomez Rasmus (DH) White Marisnick
it had clutch hitting both teams, great defense off the wall catches and wtf plays that seemed like the baseball gods were intervening. that's baseball. astros have had the lead going into the 7th in every single game of this series.
Twice in the first inning, the Astros gave up outs by not covering first base. 1st and 3rd, one out, DP. Bases loaded 1 out - Springer pop out, Altuve pop out. WP in 7th leads to tying run. Correa muffs an easy inning ending DP in 9th which leads to game winning double that was perhaps misplayed by Rasmus. While it may have been an exciting game, it certainly wasn't "good" baseball.
Great win, finally! Great job by Fister and the bullpen to keep them at bay. Neshek came through in the clutch there. Springer, Gonzales, Altuve all coming through. If Gonzales is going to continue to start he needs to produce like he did last night and needs to play above average defense at whatever position he is playing. Also 1-3 in our lineup have got to produce. Correa had some unlucky outs last night. It seems like he gets into an 0-2 count every single time. I guess it happened a lot last year but he was an excellent 2 strike hitter last year and in the minors if I remember right. Maybe he should try to drive the first pitch as pitchers typically throw him a strike on the first pitch it seems.
Harris County is doing great. One way he can avoid being overworked, is by the team not having so many close games. Team needs to hit a little better and starters pitch a little better. Field better. Avoid so many close games. Get blowouts. Team is on an upswing with Gattis, Valbuana, Kuechel (somewhat), Lance. and the bullpen. Hopefully the Rangers win gets the squad surging even more.
That may very well be true; good point. The expectations have certainly changed. Having said that... everything you posted was in play last year and AJ Reed, who was absolutely raking at a position of urgent need, never saw AAA, let alone MMP. Leads me to believe they have a threshold for their prospects in which they will not promote them prior to XYZ.
you're acting like you've never seen the astros play. it's what we do. and we still always go toe to toe against the best teams. so it was good baseball, we led.
I don't think you necessarily have to go to AAA before your promotion to the majors anymore. I know that most of the time, that is the case, but it doesn't always happen that way, and Luhnow has even said in the past that it isn't a must. Only time will tell here obviously, gonna be extremely disappointing if Bregman never comes up, and we never get good production from the corner infield spots, and miss the playoffs by a game or two....I think we can all agree to that For some reason, i'm thinking we are about to blow these guys out today
I was close <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">.<a href="https://twitter.com/Collin_McHugh">@Collin_McHugh</a> takes the mound for the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a>. 1:05pm first pitch.<br>:<a href="https://twitter.com/ROOTSPORTSSW">@ROOTSPORTSSW</a> & <a href="https://twitter.com/MLBNetwork">@MLBNetwork</a><br>:<a href="https://twitter.com/SportsTalk790">@SportsTalk790</a> <a href="https://t.co/MdnUEGphlP">pic.twitter.com/MdnUEGphlP</a></p>— Houston Astros (@astros) <a href="https://twitter.com/astros/status/740938434294906883">June 9, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I'm wondering what that threshold is, though. Seems like there are moves that could be made right now that can help without major disruptions. Send White down to get his mojo back and see if Danny Worth is for real. If they don't want to rush Bregman, that's fine...but why not at least challenge him at AAA for a time and then make a decision. Having a lineup with so many sub .250 hitters is frustrating and difficult to manage because there are so few consistent performers right now. I will actually commend Hinch for having to manage the lineup with so many inconsistent bats. When you're forced to find time for multiple players hitting below the Mendoza Line in June, what can you really expect?
I was just using that to demonstrate their (seemingly) overall reluctance to promote. Other than roster moves, there was really no reason to hold Reed in AA when he's making a mockery of it, so they must have some threshold in place - they want to see him... hit 500 PAs, or whatever. Right? I mean, why leave him in AA when he's posting a ~ 1.000 OPS? I wouldn't guess "rushing" is a concern. I think they have an analytical template that a player must do XYZ before they promote him. I mean, there could be some maturity issues they'd like to see worked out, etc. - but I don't get the sense the team is afraid to accelerate someone's development - if they've hit thresholds. I could be totally wrong and the one pattern that does seem relatively consistent from prospect to prospect (1000+ PAs) is random coincidence. But Bregman is far below all their other prospects in terms of plate appearances.
