All games are broadcast on Space City Network unless otherwise noted. 7-27 Tatsuya Imai (R) vs. Walbert UreƱa (R) 8:38 7-28 Peter Lambert (R) vs. Reid Detmers (L) 8:38 7-29 TBD vs. Grayson Rodriguez (R) 8:38
Tatsuya "starting"? Well, assuming he gets through the first inning, who is coming in to relieve him after the 3rd inning? The guy is a glorified opener most of the time at this point. I love his stuff and like him... but he needs to learn to clear 5 innings.
Its easy to lose track because his awful starts can be really awful, but he's made it through 5 innings in 6 of his last 9 starts (and though 6 in 5 of those). Astros have also won 6 of his last 7 starts over June/July.
Stat-pad vs Detmers should lower the price. Astros win twice. He was always a 100-inning guy. In '23, Astros pretended he was a Framber II workhorse. Javier has never recovered.
Correa should come and help convince trout to demand a trade to the astros . Cmon baseball gods ! We can give them javier as a much better bad contract and a prospect or two !
Trout is guaranteed ~$148M over the next 4+ years (37M/year, age 35-38), plus prorated 37M this year (12.6M) Trout has played in 55% of games in the past 3 years+ (2023-2026)
I would still take him . Granted it's not my money , but even though we will have complications from the tax , he is a great player when healthy and we have some young , cheap OF to help rest him . His slugging is definitely down from his prime , but even if he stabilizes at his current level of around .470-.500 that's still adequate because he is gonna get on base 40% of the time . If we are buying the "Astros are buyers because yordan is amazing" then we need to get the best on-base guy possible. He also happens to still be a good outfielder. If you put smith or Matthews next to him it will really help him out too . Trout will have an .850 + ops until he decides to hang it up . Even in his worst year last year he still was an 800 ops . That was an aberration. The guy is too talented. Plus , the extra money from jersey sales , promotions , and winning will offset the cost .
It's an all-in, high-risk move, and I doubt its anywhere on the Astros' radar for a lot of different reasons, but he's the one player available that can completely change the team outlook for the next few years, as opposed to playing on the margins. If Trout is healthy (a big if but he's been better in 2025 and 2026), the middle of your lineup is the scariest in baseball with Trout/Yordan. If he's not healthy, the Astros were a marginal playoff team in any other trade scenario so you don't lose much in the short-term but you take a big step back in the last years of his contract.
Trout has had an .838 OPS+ over the past 3+ seasons, while missing half the games and costing, again, $37 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR for the next 4 years. This is insanity that thankfully will never happen.
Baseball reference is giving me 866 this year 797 last year 867 year before 858 Trout missed a bunch of games his age 29 year . He hasn't been healthy at all during that 867 and 858 year ....that's why when you averaged it out he was at about 840 That's still very above average. His obp is back up to .390 this year. I think he's just a great baseball player , and has adjusted (once again) . If the astros got trout , for say, Javier and prospects . It might screw us next year and beyond . But , despite not having great pitching , we would be contenders in AL. Trout , yordan , pena , and paredes is enough firepower . Plus next year , if there is only half a season you only pay him half money Ok ok , enough . But really , it would be cool to see them go get him. We don't have the assets to trade for a comparable TOR starter , about the only play left we have to gain an edge is take on a massive amount of money. It's all fungible in the future . We can dump walker , trade pena so he's not getting a raise , dump hader. Heck if you win a WS you can salary dump those guys and everyone would understand. Correas contract starts to get cheaper . Anyways this is the game thread , so go stros and keep winning . It's better than losing , even if we sell
