HEY, he's the most popular candidate ever; even more so than Obama. He's so popular 100% of some precincts voted for him. More votes than anyone else in history. His voters loved him so much they voted from their basements just like Joe's campaign...

    ;)

This was a crazy series, but bottom line - winning 2 out of 3 on the road is great.

Javier wasn't good yesterday. He needs to be shutdown for 2-3 weeks then make a return to the bullpen. He can throw 1-2 innings then return starting again by late-August. Limit him to 90 PC and give him 5-6 days rest after returning to the rotation. That gives him chance to prove he start again with 3-5 starts and good rest heading into the playoffs (assuming we make playoffs).

If Framber misses significant time, we could be done. Pray for his health and Yordan, Urquidy, and Altuve's return. We need to add a solid starter or bullpen arm. The offense looks very good with Tucker and Abreu's resurgence. We have ability to out-slug teams while the pitching staff gets back in order. Astros could really use some easier victories to rest our overused bullpen.

Looking at Chas stats....186 ab's is all he has in 2023. 144 OPS+ should have him playing almost every game.

One of the things that really stood out to me is that the Angels were running home on everything hit to the outfield with no respect at all for the arms in the OF.

    Baseballsavant.mlb.com stats back it up.

    OF arm:
    Tucker 70% / 92.3 max / 87.7 avg
    Meyers 55% / 97.6 max / 85.7 avg
    Chas 44% / 88.6 max / 84.1 avg
    Julks 54% / 92.7 max / 85.6 avg

    Bellinger: 80% / 102.5 max / 89.2 avg
    Verdugo: 95% / 97.9 max / 92.7 avg

    Other defense
    Tucker: 204 att / 83% / -3 oaa
    Meyers: 171 att / 95% / +7 oaa
    Chas: 127 att / 94% / +4 oaa
    Julks: 86 att / 85% / 0 oaa

    Bellinger: 158 att / 94% / +5 oaa
    Verdugo: 209 att / 90% / 0 oaa

Lance needs to stick to football where he is a pretty good analyst and commentator.

It’s going to take a while to catch up on this thread, I’m sure there are some hilarious ups and downs.. but here were my thoughts I didn’t get a chance to come post during the games:

    * I honestly forgot stanek was on the team, he rarely pitches and maybe that was a factor, but OOF
    * why in the actual **** is maldy still catching? I’ve never seen such a blatant disregard for stats
    * the strength and conditioning coach somehow has more job security than maldy. 3 of our best players have soft tissue injuries from an effing swing. Not to mention all the other injuries and horrible time tables for returns being late.
    * is there really no one in the minors we can bring up instead of madris and kessinger? Good lord.
    * sucks for pressly but I mean it’s gonna happen sometimes, and that was mostly unlucky.
    * in game 3, when they went up 4-3 by velasquez scoring from first, that was only because he was already trying to steal second with 2 outs. There is literally zero respect for maldy’s arm everyone steals, which they did the next inning easily.
    * also in game 3, I’m so sick of whatever numbers y’all want to throw out, y’all throw them out harder than anything Meyers can do. A soft line drive to CF and the guys scored from first. Then later, a line drive to right center and he barely got it to the cutoff man just outside 2nd, it’s ridiculous.
    * it’s comical how much better the pitchers immediacy do when Diaz is behind the plate, I hope dusty is just getting maldy his final games before yordan comes back or this is insanity.

I had more but that was enough for now.. lucky to get 2/3.

This was one of the most bizarre weekends of Astros baseball I can remember in several years.

The nice thing is they just have to get guys healthy. They don't need to trade for anyone.

I would still like 1 bat and 2 arms (relievers or starters)

They can have lesser pitching in the playoffs... IF their lineup is:

    Altuve
    Pena
    Bregman
    Alvarez
    Tucker
    Abreu
    McCormick
    Diaz
    Julks

There's no automatic out there.... would like best rental bat on market for DH or LF and keep Julks and Dubon as top bench guys...

I'm glad these games were late so I didn't start throwing things at the tv.

Does Yordan even really need a rehab assignment? The dude basically skipped all of Spring Training and started mashing.

Breggy and Tuck are getting the praise for the comeback but it would not have even been a game without Chas 2 HRs keeping us in it. Chas is now 2nd in OPS for all CF, behind Luis Roberts. He is #1 for CF in wRC+ at 146, ahead of Luis Roberts at 144.

This is faulty logic because you are not looking at the details and breaking it down.

Other than the Astros, the 6 teams most likely to make the AL playoffs are 83% right handed in their rotations. Texas has 2 lefties, Rays, Blue Jays, and Yankees have 1 each. Orioles and Twins are 100% right handed.

Altuve -doesn't have enough PA for it to matter
    Pena- .645 vs R / .809 vs L
    Alex- .808 vs R / .545 vs L
    Yordan- .970 vs R / .988 vs L
    Tucker- .828 vs R / .950 vs L
    Abreu- .642 vs R / .642 vs L
    Chas- .840 vs R / .1.004 vs L
    Diaz- .863 vs R / .512 vs L
    Julks- .707 vs R / .819 vs L

Vs RHP this is OK, but it's hardly a juggernaut. Abreu has been fine after his bad start, but Pena and Julks both are below league average. That is especially bad for Julks, who doesn't play plus defense or even play an important defensive position.

Also the bench is extremely weak vs RHP
    Dubon- .637 vs R / .894 vs L
    Meyers- .678 vs R / .725 vs L
    Maldy- .516 vs R / .688 vs L
    Kessinger- ..619 vs R / 1.250 vs L
    Hensley- .272 vs R / .603 vs L

This team is very unbalanced. Just adding 1 bat who can be above average vs RHP and moving Julks to the bench would drastically improve this offense.
