Nothing you said was incorrect about what happened in the game, but at the end you offset everything you said about it being just one game when you said "the people thinking he was going to replace Correa or be 85% of him or something are probably settling in for a bit of a rude awakening."

Josh Rojas was a 2 WAR player last year. I'll take the over on Pena. Is he going to be 85% of Carlos? Maybe... maybe not, but 1 game isn't going to decide that. Blue chip prospects like Bregman and Tucker took time to figure it out at the MLB level. So gotta give Pena some time.

Any take after just one game is ridiculously premature... or even 10 games...

    First 10 games of Bregman...
    2 for 38. 0 RBI. 10Ks, 1 E.

Comparing Correa to Pena using WAR without taking cost into account does not portray an apples to apples comparison.

Astros spent $44M on Verlander and Correa last season.
Astros are spending that $44M roughly on Verlander, Pena, Neris, and all the arbitration raises.

Verlander/Pena/Neris combination is probably close to what Correa (and Verlander) produced last year.

He looked bad against Ohtani but he was striking out everyone. Pena was probably eager to get a hit his first game, and is more of a free swinger which is not a good combination against Ohtani. I want to see how he looks against the mediocre pitchers.

I am giving Pena time. Like, the entire year. I expect there will be a lot of learning, growing, failure and adjustment. That's the nature of rookies. He's replacing a dude that's a top 20 player in the majors. It would be crazy to expect him to be 85% of Correa. If that's your expectation you are really really pushing the envelope of what's reasonable to expect.

I'm not making an argument about how the money should have been spent, or if there will be value there or overall mission to the team. I'm saying if you are expecting 85% of Correa's production out of Pena you are doing him a disservice. That's it. That's all. Be fair to the kid. Give him time to adjust to the majors. It's ridiculously hard. Don't compare him to one of the most talented players ever to play for the Astros. Recognize that there will be growing pains. Be really happy if he can be a league average regular. That's a great accomplishment.

As you should. You should want at least until the All Star break to give him time to see what he can figure out and which way he is trending. If he doesn't look like an average regular than make a trade and fortify the position for the stretch run/playoffs. Or give the job to Diaz and see how he can do. It's not a black mark against a rookie to not be great his first taste of the majors and it doesn't even mean he shouldn't still be in your future plans. Evaluate over time. That's reasonable and logical.

I'll stick with Gameday. As difficult as it is to sign up, I can't imagine how hard it will be to cancel and the $5 monthly charges will just tick on and on and on for a handful of games a year.

Option 1 seems incredibly easy. On an Apple device download the Apple TV+ app. Without an Apple device, just go to a browser and type in tv.apple.com. You will see a number of games, but in particular you will see that the Mets/ Nationals is starting soon and the Astros/Angels later. Click on the game and watch away.

Which Correa are you talking about? His loan top 10 MVP season or the cumulative where over basically 6 seasons (counting his partial rookie year and the 2020 shortened season as 1 season) he put up 25.1 WAR which is an average of 4.18 WAR per season. Yes, I think Pena COULD be a 3.5 WAR player which is 85% of Correa's average WAR. Will he do it this season? I would bet no.

Will Pena be as clutch or have a ceiling as high as Correa? Probably not, but if he stays healthy, plays plus defense, and is an average or slightly above average hitter he can accumulate a lot of WAR because of the position he plays. JP Crawford was a 3.1 WAR last year rocking a 94 OPS+ . Ahmed Rosario was a 2.7 WAR player last year. I think he has a chance to be better than that offensively. I'm also only referencing WAR because that is where you went with the discussion.

Not so easy when I avoid satanic devices and would have to purchase one. Samsung is bad enough.

Does anyone know if Apple TV+ will have the game available after it's over if you can't watch it live?

Literally last year. As in, that’s the most recent performance he’s replacing- Top 10 in MVP and 6+-8 war depending upon which you believe.
Also- I have him at 34.1 War for career.

Thought I saw a lineup posted that showed Yuli sitting tonight for Diaz. May be wrong though.

Edit - Yeah mlb showing Diaz at first and Chaz sitting as well.
