Statistically its definitely Bregman Walks more More power Not even close. Yordan could be in the convo too tho
Bregman was not last year and he has not been this year but it is debatable. Yordan has a ways to go as well. My point being calling him the best bat in the lineup is not crazy. Why did you leave out Altuve since we are going on the past?
She is a smoking hot baseball fan. There's a photo of her holding up two pineapples in strategic places and Astros twitter used to retweet that photo when Yuli did something good (sorry, can't find it).
well damn, just checked the box score. I stopped watching at the middle of the 8th to catch some zzzz. Whelp. 161-1 isn't too bad.
OPS OPS+ wRC+ wOBA Those are the 4 go to metrics. Brantley is a good hitter, just not enough power to be considered elite imo.
So now it's elite. And you still have not mentioned Altuve in this discussion of our current best hitter. I think I am done here.
Elite, great, whatever... No need to argue semantics. I figured it was obvious why I didn't mention Altuve, because he isn't the best hitter on the team. I think he is in the tier below what Bregman has become and what Yordan has the potential to be. The big thing that separates Bregman and Alvarez in my opinion from Altuve, Brantley, Correa etc is the isolated power.
I get it Bregman is your boy and you are gonna use every metric in his favor and ignore all the metrics and length of time other players have had when considering hitting. So isolated power is a thing that seperates a better hitter? So currently who has the best isolated power stats?
I am just saying that power is what differentiates Bregman or Alvarez from Altuve or Brantley. It's the same reason that Bonds was a better hitter than Gwynn. Both very good hitters, but because of his ability to get on base and hit for power Bonds impacted the game more. Same thing goes for our situation here with the Astros. Iso is just one of many tools i look at when evaluating a hitter's overall impact. I've never met Bregman, he is not my boy. Jose Altuve is actually my favorite Astros player.
Would have expected a day off for either Altuve or Alvarez... so they get another day tomorrow. Guess that was solely a Hinch thing.
No idea how much it entered into the decision making process, but if they hadn't shat the bed last night Dusty might have done things differently.
Maybe. Definitely got used to Hinch doing this routinely... and also trying to get everybody a start early in the season. While people legitimately gripe about guys getting off days this early, I actually think it makes more sense. They’re not conditioned to play 9 inning games after spring training and an off-season. Scattered off days are beneficial while they’re building stamina and the body is acclimating to the eventual grind. Brantley being out certainly also throws a wrench as I’m sure he’d use Diaz to spell Altuve (or use Altuve to DH to spell Alvarez, while Diaz plays 2B).
Yeah, Brantley being out (thank god it's only for a few days) makes it more difficult. And all "it's a long season" caveats acknowledged, having the 1st 10 games against the 2 teams they're going to fight for the Division may play into it as well.
Astros are about to start a stretch of 4 days off in 13 days and the game before 3 out of 4 of those off days is a day game to give them an even longer break between games. There shouldn't be much if any scheduled days off during this stretch.
