Why the hell didnt Springer run when it Fowler had a 2-0 count? Weaver didn't even throw over until the count went full. Porter should have sent him earlier in the at bat.
this is kind of mixed-signal-ish, but hopefully they are right... <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Right hip flexor strain for Springer. Seems likely he's gonna have to miss a little time at least, which is unfortunate because he was really getting it together. Driving the ball, drawing walks, even cut down on K's the last few games. Obviously they will error on the side of caution here. I really didn't even mind the pickoff. That was clearly a situation that called for aggressive baserunning. Learning how to steal at the big league level is an adjustment too. It's the stupid mistakes that bother me, and that doesn't qualify IMO.
You must have missed his spectacular catch early in the game. His defense will be fine and has gotten exponentially better as he's gotten less jittery. That was the one thing that is easily projectable given his minor league and college track record.
Could see him today, although I would be surprised if he isn't sore and takes the day off: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Springer: "They told me its up to me, Im going to come in and say if I can play or not. I want to play, so Ill be good. Ill take care of it"</p>— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) <a href="https://twitter.com/EvanDrellich/statuses/469345966990979073">May 22, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> I was constantly updating my timeline for updates on this one...
Spectacular plays yes, he struggles with routine plays though. Crazy routes to balls, bobbling 2 hoppers, that sort of thing. He's never played much RF so I'd imagine that has a lot to do with it.
I'd still say its more nerves... he's "looked" better lately in terms of bobbles, overrunning balls, falling over himself (all dumb mistakes). Route running will get better with time... speed makes up for a lot of it... and he's getting to all balls he "should" be getting to. By all accounts, he played above-average to elite-level center field... he'll be able to play RF.
