Pitching and defense... pitching and defense... pitching and defense.

1-0 losses, while frustrating, still are more tolerable than 10-9 "slug"fests.

Easier to say that when the most recent loss has been of the 10-9 variety.

What was supposed to be a strength of the team- the bullpen- has been a weakness. Trevor Miller, however, has always sucked. There is a point where you cut guys who have a 7.00 ERA loose. Now is that time.

Search every single thread over the last 2-3 years where there have been slugfest games... even the ones the Astros hold on to win... and I've made similiar comments.

I just like watching well-pitched, well-played games... these sort of games, while lots of fun for the casual observer... just don't do it for me unless its a playoff game (where in that case, the team is already good enough to be in the playoffs).

Right now, without consistent starting or bullpen pitching... combined with our weakened defense... its not going to be smooth sailing. Even when the offense is playing as well as it ever has (and we know they can't be counted on to score 7+ runs every game).

Man, I didn't watch the game, but I went back to read this thread.

Hilarious. Everybody was so joyous and happy, and then all of a sudden it came crashing down.

    You guys are the best.

    Very demoralizing loss.....

What was thought to be a strength of the team is now a huge weakness: the bullpen.

When our offense gets it going, the bullpen goes south.....and vice versa. Good teams can win 1-0 and 2-1 games and then can come back and win a 10-9 game every now and then. We haven't been able to do either this year.

This could have been a huge momentum game for us......instead it's a backbreaker.

i think this is the 4th different time i've posted this but that was the worse loss of the year. geez. a chance to beat the best team in baseball with their best pitcher on the mound. that blown check-swing call probably cost us the game.

that aside, it was just a bunch of bad luck and scrapiness by the angels. qualls didn't do a good job, obviously, but it's not like they were pounding on him. it seems like there have been a lot more big innings on multiple bloop hits this year then i've seen in the past. it's just been a bad season.

and of course miller comes in and gives up a run. i don't care that he turned around figgins, it wasn't the right move bringing him in.

    That was painful.

Nevertheless...we're playing a TON better than we were earlier. Scoring runs. Now we need the bullpen to return to form.

I was too ticked last nite after the game to post. The worst part is that we scored 9 runs and still lost.

Miller needs to go. He has a 7.50 ERA and the opposition is batting .440 against him. Lidge was in the bullpen and ready to go.

ok, I never do this but I was so tired last night that I fell asleep when we were up 8-4. Hell I always gut it out no matter how early I need to get up for work and watch the Rockets and Astros games.

This is just unbelivable I mean I went and played tennis last night, got home and cleaned up and sat down expecting the worse but hoping maybe we have turned the corner. Anyway I am so pumped up as we continue to hit and I start getting text messages from Ryan17Wagner and others and like I said all the bad feelings from this season start fading as I think what can happen this week!

So disapointing, lets hope we can bounce back because like MadMax said we are playing better.
