How many more AB does Hunter Pence need to qualify for the Batting Title? He would be 9pts behind Matt Holliday .364 Pence .355
If he continues to play every day, it should take him a week or so. To keep track, multiply the number of games the Astros have played (NOT how many Pence has played) and multiply by 3.1. Compare that number to Pence's plate appearances, keeping inmind that it is not at bats, but plate appearances that qualify you.
No, because I contend that the starting pitchers are better than any bullpen pitcher sans the closer, and they should be given leeway to work out of jams when they have had it going all night long like Wandy had last night. DD
Well, yes....no doubt there. But, the relievers suck on this years team and it is because of that situation that I would like to see the starters go a little longer than 6 innings. DD
I only got to listen to the game on the radio. Was Bork way off the strike zone or barely missing? Either way, 3 straight walks (including walking in 2 runs to tie the game) hurts like hell.
So we're up 4-2, Wandy leaves the game with 2 men on...I go upstairs and get ready for bed...not five minutes passes, I turn the tv back on and the team is down 8-4...wth is up with that. What's so frustrating is that they could have easily swept all three series against some good AL teams but only ended up winning/sweeping one. If the starting rotation, bullpen and bats could come all come together for long periods then this team could have been something...but that hasn't happened and I don't see that happening. But yeah at least the offense has come around. With the way the bullpen has been sinking, it makes me wonder if it's time to blow that area up and rebuild. Maybe keep Lidge and one of Qualls or Wheeler, keep one of Moehler, White or Borkowski and then let everyone else go...find a journeyman pitcher due for a second wind that Purp has been pretty good at finding and bring up some young guys. And please find another lefty specialist already; Miller is done. Course the biggest thing is that Qualls, Wheeler and Lidge have all struggled this season...when the guys you count on to close games can't do their job it screws up the rest of the pen. Last year, two years ago, if this team had the lead you would NEVER see Miller or Borkowski or any other middle reliever pitcher try and close the door. When the team got to the 7th, game was over. I wanna get back to that.
This team just isn't very good in any particular area, whether it's hitting, pitching, bullpen, or defense.
The shame of it is in 'the tease'. This team can look pretty good. This team is within striking distance of the Central. Yet, it seems to me, with so many teams believing they are thisclose I incline towards becoming sellers, selling some guys high. Several of The Good Guys are marketable, I truly believe. And moreso -- or perhaps because -- injuries and/or warts are affecting every single club in MLB. Dartmouth Brad might even have open market value. Can you imagine?
I thought this team was ready to make a run to 8 games under .500. I guess I was wrong. At the rate we are going, we will be lucky to make it back to 5 games under .500 by the end of the year. This team makes me so angry. I guess it would be worse. We could be Texas Rangers fans. Speaking of which...if the Astros go into the Rangers series and come out of it 1-2 or 0-3...then I'm going to let out a collective "WTF!". Even though we lost to the Angels, we competed offensively and could have won that series 3-0. But, if all that transcends into a losing series against the worst team in baseball, then damn it all to hell.
We just lost a series to the best team in baseball. You're right though, if we lose this weekend, I'll agree.
The astros hitting is finally coming alive except for lance berkman he is still strugling but i expect him to improve players like him dont stay in slumps for a whole season
