I want to know WTF is Miller doing still hanging with this team with a freakin' 7 ERA!? Mohler sucks, Qualls has been sucking since 2004 and they still get easy jobs here. Garner should've went with White, Bork, Wheeler then Lidge. I bet only 2-3 runs would've been scored if this was put into place. We would've won 9-7. AGHHHHHHHH! I'm still pissed about that mother f^$%er Qualls!
Yes, a DLed white and Wheeler and his 15+ ERA this month would have been far better than Qualls who hadn't given up a run in his last 8 outings.
Fortunately I didn't see the entire game, but in what I saw (particularly the late innings), I noticed some weak hits to the right of Loretta that Everett probably could've made a play on (or at the least, held in the infield). It might look pretty for a couple of games, but over the long haul, losing that defense is a factor... there were a few examples of it last night.
I'm still trying to figure out how many of the posters complaining about Qualls' pitching last night actually saw the game (rather than "watching" via espn's gamecast or something similar).
It was a very tough loss. I was at the game, and was surrounded by some very friendly Angels fans who didn't mind us being Astros fans even when it looked like they were going to lose. I agree Adam Everett could have probably saved a run or two that Loretta couldn't get to. But Loretta was doing pretty well at the plate, so it might have made up for it. We had a tough break on that ground rule double, because if the ball had bounced off the fence Lee(I think was on third) could have run home and scored. Ensberg hit a shot that could have won it for us, but Figgens caught that bullet, and saved the day. Had Qualls come on at the beginning of the inning and not had to start with runners already on, it could have made a difference. If Borkowski had come in instead of Qualls it might have made a difference as well. There were so many little things that could have changed the outcome of that game.
wow, a guy goes 4/5 with three rbi and you still say he shouldn't start after a piss poor performance by our bull pen. how about this, if the bull pen does it job they would have won. we KNOW that.
I turned it off after that horrible top of the ninth. I knew at that point that this game was lost. No sense in staying up and getting all pissed off. Sure enough...I was right. I personally think Garner lost this one by staying with Qualls when he didn't have squat working for him. But, he just left him in to await whatever fate came and that fate was delivered with a blown lead. Sure, Qualls caught some bad breaks like with the high bouncer. However, I still think he should have been yanked well before that point. Garner is so stubborn that he just sticks with a guy who isn't getting it done all the way up until the lead is gone. Then, it is too late.
Pretty much how I feel about Garner, and I started the DVR right after Morgan blistered that ball to 3rd.... UGH ! DD
At what point do you take him out? He walks the first guy - take him out now? The next guy hits a rolling grounder (not hit hard) through the left side of the infield - now? The next guy hits a DP ball that they don't turn - now? The next guy hits a chopper thorugh the right side of the infield - now? The next guy hits a SF - now? The next guy hits a high bouncer 80 feet - now? The hardest hit ball was the SF. They were also burned with two questionable calls. The DP could have gone either way as could have the checked swing. The only thing Qualls could have done better was strike out the side.
You missed the memo, bobrek. If Qualls had three guys smoke balls right at defenders, like Ensberg did in the ninth, he "had it." A few choppers that found holes (partially because of poor defense) mean he sucked and has apparently sucked since 2004. Clearly, there's no luck in baseball... how a pitcher is throwing can be determined simply through whether it ends up as an out.
That double play call hurt us. There is no doubt about it. When I looked at it the first two times I was sure it was a bad call. The third time, and I could at least see that it was close enough to be questionable.
I had surgery this morning and wasn't going to take another shower. I did stay up to finish watching the game even though I shouldn't have. I was frustrated with Qualls but it's hard to blame him TOO much. All the lefties were coming up and I figured if Gar pulled him then he would have put in Miller. Still rather have Qualls in there than Miller. I saw the Biggio strikeout coming. Biggio facing a dominant closer on the road. Once he got 2 strikes, you knew he was going down swinging on an outside breaking ball. I initially shook my head when Gar brought in Miller although I understood it because of turning Figgins around. I should have gone with my gut reaction. Miller sucks. He sucks against lefties but more against righties. His futility outweighed any advantage we might have gained by making Chone bat right handed. I wonder if the runner was in scoring position if Gar would have brought Lidge in. Most of the events in the last inning were just unfortunate. It's just the way it goes sometimes. The Angels scored runs off of p***y BS choppers and Morgan lasers a ball with the bases juiced and Figgins doesn't even have to move. It just sucks but there's nothing you can do.
