I just don't understand what rationale there could have been for putting in Hoyt. Both Harris and gregerson were by far superior options. I'm sure ( unless hinch just legitimately had a brain implosion) the reason he put Hoyt in were based off advanced stats and sabrmetrics , something like Hoyt's spin rate. At some point , you have to ignore the advanced for the obvious and not put a guy out there who has been giving up runs everytime he comes in , despite whether or not he "should" Gregerson is having a good June and could have also pitched 2 innings here , setting up Harris and Giles if the situation called for it. I just have no idea why hinch put in Hoyt ; and was warming up guduan also .
I guess maybe Hinch figured his batters weren't going to score any runs anyways so he went with Hoyt and Guduan to try to get all of the A's runs out of their system.
Guduan's pointing up on Davis' rope over Marwn's head is reminiscent of Oswalt's pointing up at 2 HRs that one game.
This part isn't atypical. The Astros have gone all year to their lesser bullpen guys when losing--especially by more than 1-2 runs. And I don't disagree, given how often this team is winning and needs their better guys available. But how we got here (Hoyt) was in a tie situation. So I def. don't agree with that call
Wow. Just checked the score. How impressive. Here we are with the best record in the AL. Can we make home field optional in the playoffs. Apparently we suck at the juice box.
