I am glad Luhnow and Hinch are in charge. You’re ready to strip Pressley and Smith of their roles based on a 5 inning body of major league work.
So what you are saying is that one shouldn't use small sample sizes of data to try to make a point such as 13 innings of save situations. Will be interesting to see what Josh Flames does. It would not surprise me if a year from now he's a feared ace reliever if he doesn't pan out as a starter.
No thanks. I don’t want a high leverage reliever that struggled to command where walks can be deadly, especially with the other high level talent in the bullpen. But I’m mighty excited about James long term.
Yes. That is what eveyone expects. To never give up a run or make an out. You aren’t being annoying at all.
Generally I was using 50 or so innings of save situations dating back to last season. But, if I can’t use 13 innings then no one can use 3 innings. (And the trend continues...7/7 in save situations, although he finally allowed his first run in one....non-save, 5 games, 4 innings, 10 runs, 8 earned. Truly one of the more remarkable relief years ever)
You were using 50 innings excluding data you didn't like, decades of relief pitcher data suggesting pitchers don't pitch better in save situations, previous seasons of Giles suggesting he has no special save situation intensity, and batted ball data suggesting he was hit as hard in save situations as he was in non-save situations (i.e., he was getting lucky in save situations that batters were hitting balls at defenders). But, yes 5 innings isn't enough. Though Flames's minor league performance suggests he has a better chance than most to become a solid reliever. It will be interesting to watch him.
Pretty sure it would be laughable for many of the posters in this forum to say they weren't annoying.
Which is why I said Giles season this year is remarkable. I have to imagine his splits are historic and they have continued for five months.
‘remarkable’ - worthy of attention; striking ‘remarkable’ - worthy of being or likely to be noticed especially as being uncommon or extraordinary.
Pivotal game today. Athletics begin series with the Yankees. Seattle is comfortably behind in the standings. Win, win, win. Good grief, it is the Angels. Spank these guys and send them home.
I understand the definition, but the word is generally meant as positive. His entire Astros tenure was weird. 2016- He sucks during save situations, and was successful during non-save 2017- He sucks on the road, does well at home 2018- He sucks during non-save, but is highly successful for saves Remark-worthy
It can go either way. If Osweiler throws 6 interceptions in a half, that is remarkable. The Rockets 3 point shooting in game 7 was remarkable
