Cosart's inability to not throw hanging breaking balls on 0-2 has been his downfall. Too predictable. He needs to go in the dirt on those or go fastball inside.
Cosart appeared to have foreign substance on bill of cap Wednesday vs. Angels Spoiler Guess it didn't help?
8 of the 9 hits the Angels had tonight came with 2 strikes on the hitter. The inability of the pitchers to finish them off cost them.
Well, if nothing else it is nice to be truly disappointed with a loss. Last couple of years it's been easy to take them.....
Cosart isn't quite the same this year. Did the league catch up a little or is he doing something different?
If you believe in analytics, this is simply a regression to the mean. His peripherals last year were just as bad, but had better ERA for being "lucky." Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine. Whatever he was doing that kept getting him out of jams last year no longer works this year.
He would have fared better had: A. Altuve made the tag better B. Porter challenged the play. The shot from CF appeared to conclusively prove the tag came before the other hand hit the bag.
Let's take the series today! Would love to beat Skaggs... This dude has thrown 15 innings of 1 run baseball against us while only walking 2 and allowing 9 hits. Altuve and Castro both have 2 hits a piece against him while the only run was produced on a Dominguez sac fly. Here's to hoping Singleton will have some success against him, especially since I am going to the game
Yet I still see him improving as a pitcher and I have high expectations for him. His stuff last night was great until he wore out late and left a couple pitches up. His early success last year brought unrealistic immediate expectations. Personally, I see him as a pitcher that continues to refine his stuff and will be significantly better in 2-3 seasons as he hones his command.
Yeah, my girlfriend and I will be there too. Probably miss the first couple of innings though... Damn you work.
This I would agree. If you just ignore last season, then he's performing what you'd expect from a prospect of his caliber. But it also means we shouldn't expect him to become a surprise all-star either. Probably a good #3 or #4 for a contender if he pans out.
