MLB says Umps are blind and don't know the rules http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9...s-angeles-angels-houston-astros-game-mlb-says Edit: Obviously, I'm not serious, but MLB says they made the wrong call. Wright should have pitched.
With respect to the rule, this is the first time I can ever remember something like this happening. Porter SHOULD have known the rule and he should be ashamed that he didn't. Moreover, the umpires should have known the rule and they should be appropriately fined or suspended. There is no need to change the rule. It has worked fine for decades.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Fieldin Culbreth, the crew chief in Thursday's game between Angels and Astros, has received a two-game suspension and a fine, MLB announced.</p>— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) <a href="https://twitter.com/brianmctaggart/status/332961137131933696">May 10, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I'm still stunned about Porter and the umpires not knowing this rule correctly. I mean this is the rule that forced Tommy La Russa to allow he did not want to pitch in the World Series a few years ago resulting in them losing that game. Glad they suspended the umpires. MLB finally showing character?!?
