"Idol" Finalist Sex Tape -- "Nastiest I've Ever Seen"

Olivia Mojica, a top 24 contestant on Season Two of "American Idol," has a sex tape that will be released soon, sources tell TMZ.

We're told the tape is "very explicit" and features 40 minutes of "smoking hot sex." One source who says he has seen the tape put it this way -- "It's the nastiest tape I've ever seen."

We're told the tape was shot with her boyfriend, but we don't know when. A website featuring a preview of the tape will launch soon, similar to the site created specifically for Kim Kardashian's sex tape.

We're told Vivid Entertainment is the front-runner to distribute the tape. Steven Hirsch, co-chairman of the company, said he cannot comment at this time.

Mojica was 18 at the time of her appearance on "American Idol." Lately, she has been singing with the East coast rock band, The Watchdogs.

Mojica could not be reached for comment.

You are totally ruining “American Idol.” You and the King of All Culture Hackers, Howard Stern, that dude at VoteForTheWorst.com and maybe some other people … but mostly You.

You seem to have no respect for a fair contest and the feelings of others. You keep voting for that Sanjaya kid on “American Idol,” and it’s making a lot of people very cranky. OK, in context with the rest of the planet (and in relation to things that actually matter), maybe not a lot of people. But certainly a handful of talking heads on daytime TV. Not to mention that MySpace guy who went on a (failed) hunger strike because of Your bad influence.

Perhaps You’re taken aback by all the hubbub Your little prank is producing. Hey, me too. I mean, what’s with all the shock and awe, right? Didn’t TIME magazine name You 2006 Person of the Year” for seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game?” It was only a matter of time before You turned on America’s most beloved institution, “American Idol,” and messed stuff up. It’s what You do.

You should be ashamed
OK, I can see why “American Idol” fans are upset about this Sanjaya thing. You lot of miscreants are mucking up the place for people who really do enjoy getting lost in the “Star Search” pageantry or whatever. But if the “A.I.” true believers (which ironically are You, too) stepped back and took a breath, they’d see something very cool going down. This whole Sanjaya thing illustrates, as aptly stated in the virtual science blog, More Noise than Signal, “virtual communities can have big effects on the non-virtual world.”

The blog’s author Daniel Harrison goes on to describe the Sanjaya effect in terms of evolutionary psychology, epidemiology and blah blah blah. Meanwhile, “A.I.” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe doesn’t give this rapidly growing virtual movement much credit at all, stating that this whole Sanjaya thing is “a bit like a fly buzzing around a cow; you want to waft it away with your tail."

When it comes to influencing popular culture, Lythgoe and others of his mind would do well to heed the past accomplishments of the mighty Howard Stern audience. Consider a decade or two of “Baba Booey” crank callers who’ve infiltrated nearly every major broadcast news program, including coverage of the famous O.J. Simpson standoff in 1994. Or consider those who claim that a Sanjaya win would cause “A.I.” to “jump the shark,” using a phrase inserted into the common vernacular via Stern’s endorsement of the original JumptheShark.com.

Of course, moving people with mass media is nothing new. Orson Wells did as much with his 1938 radio adaptation of the H.G. Wells story, “War of the Worlds.” But the panic caused by his faux news report on a Martian invasion was just a reaction. This whole Sanjaya thing is getting people to take directed action and repeat it over a longer-than-usual time frame. Keeping Sanjaya around has quickly gone from being the dutiful execution of a leader’s wishes to a captivating group project endorsed by celebrities such as Zach Braff, Rose McGowen and Pink.

What will You do next?
In light of other recent Internet campaigns, it was really only a matter of time before one exploded, splattering its crazy empty-calorie goodness all over the Universal Consciousness. Britain flirted with declaring Jedi a religion after a census thanks to Internet efforts. Web site SomethingAwful takes great joy in messing with people on Second Life who are taking themselves a bit too seriously. Last year, Steven Colbert successfully influenced “The Colbert Report” viewers to vote for his name in an online poll to name a bridge after him in Hungary.

What’s interesting is that we’re seeing all these loose tribes develop around a few influential voices within large virtual communities. Pop culture generally doesn’t work this way — at least it didn’t use to. Once upon a time, the majority of radio and/or Internet community didn’t participate. In radio, the main players were the ones with the big antennae. On the Internet, the leaders often self-select. The rest of the group chooses to participate minimally, a lot, or not at all. Research shows that the majority of us go with “not at all,” voyeuristically taking in the entertainment at a distance — or as we say on the InterWeb, “lurking.”

Say what you want about Sanjaya Malakar and his so-called supporters. There’s something about this kid that seems to be pulling the lurkers out of the corners and into the act. It’s a cool trend and probably not one that’s going to die down any time soon. The Next Big Things on the Internet aren’t usually foretokened by business models or white papers. They’re quite often the products of people goofing around, playing at silly nonsense like keeping Sanjaya on “A.I.” And while Sanjaya may be a below-average singer, he’s rapidly gaining a more important role in history as an example of where the virtual world connects with the real.

And he couldn’t have done it without You.

Idol popularity is America's revenge
Malakar is more proof of our cynicism

You could see the confusion in American Idol judge Simon Cowell's face. With a calm, dismissive grin, he admitted, "I genuinely don't think it matters what we say. I think you are in your own universe. If people like you, good luck."

Sanjaya Malakar had just massacred No Doubt's Bathwater. He forgot the lyrics and couldn't keep in tune for more than a couple of lines, and this time his hair was a daring faux-hawk made of seven ponytails.

Randy Jackson was speechless. And even Paula Abdul, the pity princess herself, dropped this bit of criticism: "If you had the gumption, if you had the ability to totally go for it, it would fit the wackiness of the faux-hawk."

There's little room for argument; Malakar is this season's worst singer. Yet the day after his rendition of Bathwater, he didn't even place in the bottom three vote-getters.

Some say it's because Malakar, 16, who has a wide smile and is more than a tad effeminate, plays to the 'tween crowd. Others say that campaigns by Howard Stern and Votefortheworst.com have helped Malakar.

But, I think, Malakar has become the most concrete example that Americans have come to understand the joke and American Idol's bubble is deflating.

Until Malakar came around, voters have faithfully given the talented, most marketable singers their support, and most importantly, they've played by judges' and producers' rules.

American Idol has existed in an alternate universe, one that demands a 24-like suspension of disbelief.

For six seasons, viewers have taken advice from the strangest arbiters of good talent: Randy Jackson, who touts his stint with Journey far more than his stint with Aretha Franklin, and Paula Abdul, a long-forgotten '80s singer who danced with an animated cat in her best-known hit, Opposites Attract.

And viewers have let themselves sink into a world where real-life lounge singers such as Celine Dion become luminaries.

But this season that alternate world seems not to be working. According to Nielsen ratings, last Tuesday's show was the least-watched of the season. Ratings were down 10 percent compared to last year (31 million viewers to 28 million).

It could be that American Idol has lost its way. The show is supposed to be about the American dream. A bunch of contestants come in, and there's one spot open. The one who is supposed to win is a country bumpkin from the outskirts of Fort Worth whose shot at fame is represented entirely with this show.

That's what happened with Kelly Clarkson, the first Idol winner. Season Two saw Ruben Studdard, overweight and with a golden voice, win, and the admittedly illiterate Fantasia Barrino took Season Three's title.

Studdard and Barrino were a disappointment record-sales-wise, and suddenly Carrie Underwood, a golden princess with Nashville polish, won Season Four. It was also Season Four that saw Mario Vazquez quit midway to start a career of on his own.

I don't know where Season Five winner Taylor Hicks fits in all this. Maybe he's just a better version of Malakar. Maybe he was viewers/voters' last-ditch effort at returning AI back to its American Dream roots, but what's happening on the show isn't translating to what people are buying on the street. Chris Daughtry, who came in fourth last season, has outsold both Hicks and runner-up Katharine McPhee.

Maybe that's the rub: American Idol has lost its groove. Part of what made it huge was that it provided unthinkable opportunities for the best karaoke singers. There was only one spot, a lottery ticket in which the person you chose becomes a national prom queen.

So this season viewers are sending a message with Malakar.

I'm sure the American public doesn't think him a good enough singer to make it to the top 10, and giving Stern or Votefortheworst.com credit is folly, because Idol, with millions of viewers more than both outlets combined, is bigger than that.

What's happening now is a backlash that probably started last season when Hicks, the bumbly Michael McDonald wannabe, took the title. (Hicks also was backed by votefor theworst.com.)

This season, though, the judges made a mistake; they gave Malakar, a less-talented singer and goofier caricature than Hicks, a golden ticket to Hollywood, and the American public pounced.

So the softening bubble, along with two years of consternation and distrust of the government, outside the Idol world, make voting for Malakar the perfect manifestation of today's new cynicism.

And let's face it, it's been a bad period for music. Eliot Spitzer, now governor of New York, uncovered a radio industry that still uses payola as a means for popularity. Many of the artists covered on Idol (John Mayer and Gavin DeGraw, among them) were being force-fed to fans on radio.

It all flies in the face of what has made AI a success — the idea that the American public can use its free will. So when the winners aren't really winning and producers fill casts with the same types of people — row after row of attractive girls who can wail like Mariah Carey — viewers feel manipulated, and that's when the likes of Malakar become the perfect revenge.

What are you talking about??? This was the first time watching the show all season, and I tuned in just for Sanjaya. He lived up to all the hype everyone was telling me about.

Like a good citizen, I voted for him twice after the show. He better make the final 2.

Oh man, I just watched it. That performance was absolutely horrible, second only to ponyhawk. In other words, incredibly great!

Simon's comments afterwards should also help to put Sanjaya through.

I thought Simon's expression was not about Chris' VT talk but a roll of the eyes towards Chris' comments that he meant to sing "nasally".

I think he knew, or someone told him, how it might have come off on camera which led him to express his thoughts towards VT later on.

Oh, and by the way, Jordin kicked ass tonight. I think she is going to have a HUGE career.

Damn, how terrible was Sanjaya tonight. I would say that was the worst performance of all time... and then I remember his bizarre Michael Jackson-esque rendition of Stepping out with my baby. Just horrible.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he got booted off. It was THAT bad. There's only so far that the vote for the worst stuff can take him. And he's currently last on Dial Idol, so he could be in danger.
