The Braves* and Freddie Freeman haven't won a playoff series since '21. The Nationals haven't made the playoffs since '19. Those two WS are f***ing anomalies. *ATL trails 2-1 and are one game from elimination ***uck
From November 2022, two weeks after the WS. Interesting hearing the prognostications after having hindsight. I like Russo's energy and perspective overall in most instances. - Abreu, good signing -- unless he's injured and hides it, right? - Brantley, good signing -- if he actually plays. - Montero is overpaid -- true, too bad he sucked for 2 months on top of that - Chas isn't good enough -- Chas ends up breaking out at nearly all-star level - Verlander will price himself out and leave Houston --- but he returns and is doing well overall - deGrom is too injury prone -- deGrom barely pitches in 2023 - Dodgers don't win enough to be in Astros class -- Dodgers get swept in their only playoff series
For those wondering a lot of talk today in Minnesota is about how the Twins hitters are too impatient and all wanted to hit it out of the park. A lot of criticism of sitting Joe Ryan too soon and Kepler not protecting the plate.
I tihnk I saw it a when it first came out and to be honest didn't really stick with me. I am kind of uneasy though seeing a Jeremy Pena look alike in a Dodgers Hat.
They’re not wrong. They struck out a lot this year… and a lot in this series. That’s a big reason why they were so up/down/meh all season. Not sure the Ryan move would have made a difference. They were still going to go to the lefty at some point given that Ryan wasn’t going a complete game. Also the rest of their bullpen was fantastic. The game plan on the pitching side worked… worked for both teams.
The numbers for Altuve make the point. He’s done his job. Other superstars have wildly underperformed relative to their normal numbers. On sports radio, they’re talking about Betts and how his post season numbers are pathetic relative to his regular season performance.
Didn't he just say after game 2, he knew Maldy's tendencies and knew what was coming? Well he just lost another $250k in arbitration with that ALDS performance.
Here's why the Astros organization has flourished. The players know they don't need 30 HRs and 100 RBIs every year in the regular season to be considered for top dollar contracts (Springer, Correa and Cole has shown the Astros can help develop players and post season success can equate to those large contracts). So we have a team full of players that all want to win in the post season and not necessarily kill themselves for ungodly numbers. Some players are happy to get $300 mil off of regular season production and call it a career. The players we have seem to rather have 5 HRs in a post season than 40 HRs in the regular season. Every team out there wants experienced guys that can play no matter the pressure and Houston chews them up and spits them out quite often. Astros motto literally is: Next One Up. But the players seem to be okay because they know if the Astros don't fork over the dough- they'll get it somewhere else with a nice resume to boot.
Love watching baseball when the Astros have advanced to the next round. Sit back, relax and watch Phillies Vs Braves. Hopefully Braves win and make this a 5 game Series. Beat up each other before Arizona.
