Curious to see the atmosphere at MMP. Its only natural that the rabid nature of fan base somewhat dissipates after they become accustomed to success. The 2015 atmosphere was off the charts, given the hunger of everybody around here (10 years since playoff appearances), and 2017 was the first time they had real expectations to win it all. The hope is that this doesn't turn into closer to early 2000's Atlanta... that couldn't sell out their first round playoff games, and didn't really show the same passion as the 90's at the start of their run. I doubt that will happen. MMP should be rocking. But it has been a down year overall for attendance (for expected reasons) and I'm sure even some Astros players have forgotten how crazy it could (should) get in there.
I hate these early start times. Mlb sure does a great job screwing over the fans with 1pm starts. Kids can't watch because they are in school, fans have to work. It's not a way to grow the sport in cities that should be excited for playoff baseball.
I'd actually say kids have a better chance of actually watching or going to a 3pm game vs. staying awake for a 7pm game that takes 4-5 hours. But regardless, its been this way for 100 years. Players are very accustomed to playing at these times. The rest of the playoffs will be filled with games that go past midnight, including the WS.
e Dusty still has some semblance of mobility. LaRussa is old... and he's a drunk.... and when he walks to the mound, you can't tell which aspect is impacting him more.
Post vocalizes 1pm starts then a 3pm rebuttal gets made without addressing 1pm... Smh Fact is, MLB has lost popularity over the years and is the most regional sport of the Big 3. There are certain things it can do to increase interest and 1pm weekday starts ain't it.
Astros been hitting Lance Lynn hard the last couple of starts right? I hope it continues. But I think the Astros struggled against Cease in 2 games this season. They had few hits off of him and I saw 2 were from Toro. Hopefully Rodon is unhealthy because that could be the difference in the series. No predictions from me as I don't want to jinx it but go Astros!
I'm wondering that, too. The saving grace could be that the other franchises in the city are not in a position to win things so all of the excitement and passion is centered on the Astros.
More likely the start time has more impact on the attendance than the interest in the team. Kind of a nice way for MLB to screw over the 'stros and diminish the home field advantage. The prime time game is on the road where the fans can load up and give it to the road team. Hope the guys go into it with a huge chip on their shoulder and flip the switch under the bright lights (and sun). Go 'stros!
Thanks SBISD for giving my kids Fri. Oct. 8 & Mon. Oct. 11 off from school so we can watch both days of quadruple headers of MLB Playoffs!!
I got tickets for under face value through the Gametime app for the Friday game so it's not the hottest of tickets. Not surprising for a 1pm Friday game.
