When you have basically a 100% success rate, it makes sense. You force the Astros to make a throw - you never know if Castro might airmail it or Valbuena misses it or it hits Gore and bounces away or whatnot. Beyond that, all sorts of good things (WP, passed ball, etc) can happen during the next batter with fairly tiny risk. The odds of what actually happened are miniscule - it makes sense from a risk/reward perspective given that your default chance of scoring is fairly low at that point.
