This is actually a key decision by Dusty. Whoever is the Game 3 starter would be lined up to start Game 1 of the World Series if the Astros advance. Barring a sweep, Verlander would go in Game 5 and there's only 3 days of rest between that and the World Series.

I did say "if" they advance. I'm not assuming anything. But this compressed schedule of the postseason prevents a Verlander Game 1 start(again, barring an ALCS sweep). Thankfully he would be able to go in Game 2.

nobody knows if dusty is actually thinking that. LMJ vs Cole is more likely than not going to be saturday's matchup. don't automatically take someone else's thoughts and plant them in dusty's head lol
It is also a reason you might put Alvarez at DH for this game. He has less experience with the wind affecting the ball flight.
I personally pitch McCullers game 3 and Javier Game 4, leaving Verlander, Framber and McCullers lined up to start the WS WHEN we sweep the Yankees in 4.
