I'm getting pumped for this game. Unfortunately I've got a work event this evening so will miss the first few innings but looking forward to checking in seeing the Stros up.
A Yankees WS would be painful with how much the national media would be talking about how great it is to have them back. Imagine how insufferable an Yankees Mets WS would be.
A-Rod called the Astros a "juggernaut" on MLB TV last night. I've been an Astros fan and a Houston sports fan for 44 years now and I've NEVER heard anyone call ANY team from Houston a juggernaut. Man, this is a great time to be alive. So glad my boys get to experience this at about the same age I was (10) when I first started becoming a hardcore Astros/Rockets/Oiler fan.
Who do you want pitching game 2. It's important because then that pitcher will be lined up to pitch game 7. Other than Verlander all other starters get one start on regular rest. My vote is for LMJ.
What I'm feeling isn't over-confidence. There are facts that go into my prediction that we win this series 4-1. 1.This season, the yankees, at no point, led a game with the exception of winning 2 with walk-offs. 2. Their rotation is messed up having to go 5, although not as bad as it would've been had they not been gifted an extra day off. Playing 2 days in a row in 2 different cities is not an issue MLB players aren't used to all season long. Even if they were on regular rest, Cole and the guy that looks like Super Mario aren't scary. 3. Their pen is not very good. 4. We own their hearts and minds, living rent free in NYC. They'll claim it's just another series but we all know the truth. It's a great time to be an Astros lifer and no matter what happens in this series, the sun will rise and I'll continue to be an Astros lifer. But beating these tools and their insufferable fan base is a little sweeter than other teams.
I'm worried about our (short) layoff. Nice that we can get our rotation all set up, but hoping it doesn't bother us like it did the dodgers and braves. Even though we swept the M's, all 3 games could have gone either way. And we're WAY better than them. We really need Tuve to pick it up. Can't do this without him. Maybe playing the yankees will light that fire in his belly again.
Just like the warriors owned the rockets, patriots owned the Texans, and now the Astros own the Yankees. Stros in 6 but wouldn’t shock me if they won in 5.
This is going to be a dogfight. Regular season means nothing. The Yankees hate us but we have a deeper hatred for Garrett Cole. Astros in 7. Anxiety levels will be brutal.
That's for sure. Even though we've been the dominate team for most of the last 6 years we're still seen as upstarts who could only win by cheating. Forget that all the other blue bloods of the MLB were cheating too we're always going to be one who takes the blame because we don't have the pedigree of the Yankees or Dodgers or the national love like the Red Sox, Cubs and Cardinals.
I want us to beat the Yankees badly but stuff like this makes me nervous. It especially makes me nervous hearing A-Rod call us juggernauts. I like Hakeem's mantra Stay Humble, Stay Hungry I've seen too many Houston teams underperform when on paper they should be winning easily. I've seen Houston teams brick 27 three pointers in a row after leading a series and blow a 35-3 halftime lead.
I agree with you. However, I think the Astros have learned to just keep their mouth shut and work hard. Let other people talk about us whether good or bad. I don't think it phases the players at this point. Either way it's going to be a dog fight becuase they have very capable hitters on this lineup that can flip the game real quick.
