Probably because they added Schilling without losing anyone. On the other hand, the bigger acquisition was the Yankees adding Rodriguez. Will the Yankees/Red Sox juggernaut ever end. Even if neither team has won it all in a few years, its no surprise that they are so frequently in the playoffs and in the ALCS - they spend a bajillion dollars. There need to be some more equality in team salary but that's a different argument.
